Well, finally found an upgrade from my little 4x6.  Doing some work for a friend on a truck he bought and he paid me back by buying, picking up and delivering this Carolina for me from a guy on CL:I'll be pulling the 3/4hp motor that's on it now off and putting on one of my spare 1hp motors...probably going to upgrade it to a 2hp in a couple of months though.  Think I'll have to service the hydraulic lowering cylinder as well, but that's easy enough.Gotta say, it cuts a heck of a lot better and the capacity is huge in comparison to my little 4x6.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Nice score. I've got that exact saw and love it. My hydraulic lowering cylinder needs work also. When you redo yours be sure and post up what you do. I'm curious to see what it involves. Thats the only real issue I have with mine..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:That saw is really a pretty good saw. But we bought a brand new one some years ago and the hydraulic cylinder was not good right from the start. we ended up putting a little reservoir on the cylinder so that it would not get air in it. then it worked fine for a long while. I finely went o a larger cylinder with a air over for a power down. that was the ticket and made it completely controllable.  Mac
Reply:Thats a good looking machine, Appears to be lightly used and not abused so you came out good.  Congrats...BobI'm spending my Kids inheritance, I dont like him that much anyway!!!!!!Enuff tools to do the job, enough sense to use em.Anybody got a spare set of kidneys?  Trade?
Reply:Thanks guys.  I'll have to see about finding a larger cylinder...didn't know those cylinders were pretty much junk brand new.  I may still see if I can service it though and get some life out of it before finding a replacement.  Tool Maker:  If you remember the model you guys got and could post it here, I'd appreciate it.  Probably save me endless hours trying to find a model that fits.Brucer:  Well, the saw cost $175...just got done spending 5 hours doing a complete inside and out rebuild on the carb for his new truck and I'm gonna spend probably another 6 or so hours tomorrow working on the truck with him to see if we can get it running.  All in all, I think he's getting the better end of that bargain --Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:Nice saw, enjoy it!!
Reply:Just got one of my spare 1hp motors installed on the bandsaw...now it's rockin' and rollin'.  All I have to do now is find a larger hydraulic lowering cylinder and I'm in business.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
