Here is my latest tool addition.  It is an old Miller Falls 7" side grinder.  My Dad and older brother were in business together until Dad died in 1976.  My brother got all the business tools but when I was looking around the shop I spied this old grinder with a missing cord and 35 years of dust laying under a bench.  I took it home cleaned it up and replaced the cord.  It runs just fine.  Only thing it needs is new brushes.  The ID plate is hard to read but said it runs on AC-DC and from 25-60Hz.  I can remember working after school out in the shop behind the house. Did everything from Pulpwood trucks to liquor stills.  When I75 was being built in GA, Dad worked at Bibb Steel and Supply Co. welding beams for all the overpasses and bridges. Attached Images
Reply:Gaurds? We don't need no stinkin gaurds! I bet that thing weighs a ton. You'll build up your arms running that puppy over your head all day long!.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:X2 on theold toold.  I got a 1/2 inch drill like that.  Not a drop of plastic on it anywhere.  Will just about rip an arm off if it snags...Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Old power tools are cool.  But don't hold a candle to the newer breed of quality tools out there.  they're lighter, more powerful, brush changes are easy.  I have a dozen or more older steel or aluminum body power tools and they sit right where you found that one...Give a old circular saw a run and then grab a porter cable or dewalt saw of recent mfg.... they cut better and weigh half as much.I love old tools, especially hand tools which I use a lot.  Most of the really old power tools collect dust under the bench.
Reply:I keep "that bast*rd saw" on the truck for when the shiny new yellow saws just cant hang -  a mid 40's skil worm drive.  20+ pounds and enough torque to cross your eyes.  Concrete, green wood, sheet metal, flesh, bone - nothing slows it down.Course the guys running it don't quite love it the way I do.When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives.
Reply:I remember my grandfather had an old black and decker metal case drill. The wiring shorted out and it would shock the sh*t out of you when you used it. Granddads "fix"? Wear a leather glove I remember this because it was probably the first thing I ever tore apart and repaired when I was like 14 or so. I showed granddad I had fixed his drill.. old codger still wore that damn glove LOLIf you cant fix it with a hammer, it must be an electrical problem."Boy, everyone starts with a full bag of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before the bag of luck is empty."-Grandad circa 1990ish
Reply:Newer tools a lighter yes more powerful not always. My 9in miwaukee while not as old as the ops but still 20+ years old will out grind any other grinder Ive used. Most carpentors all have that old "back up" saw for when the new one breaks or wont handle ripping full 2" roughcut oak boards or similar projects.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
