hello all, im new to this fab/metal world but I got a miller 375 x-treme and have blasted through a few types/thicknesses of metal. when I go to town on the object I basiclly just turned the dial all the way up(220 hookup) the reason for the question is b/c I did notice the plasma scarring the back side of a peice I was practicing on. so I was woundering if there was a ref gauge or something out there other than the owners book? any help is appreciated! thanks for reading
Reply:What are you referring to when you say scarring on the back side of your metal? If you mean you have excessive dross buildup, you need to adjust your travel speed and or amperage and possibly both. Correct standoff height is something else to verify.Experience will help with this issue for you.The 375 is a 30 amp machine?Follow your users guide for your machine, they know best.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:General rule of thumb for me is 1 amp per 1/100 of an inch of steel, but of course it depends on how fast you want to travel.
