I have an old sa 200. The last time I used it was ten years ago. At that time I had to put it on high idle to try welding with but it would not hold amps, so I fired up a mini mig to finish the project. Now I decided to get it running again, The motor is running ok now. No power to welding leads. the exciter brushes are free, need to clean the commutator. the main brushes are stuck, one has lead wire from brush to landing broke. This is not the main lead going back to gen housing. This commutator is in need of stoning also. Can I get a stone someplace? Also I tried to pull a set of brushes out of the brush holder, no good. Pulled brush holder, and had to drive them out. Ok, have I made a mistake by doing this? I only did one so far. The way these are stuck I think a brush holder replacement is in order. Is there a special gap for the brush holder plate to commutator? I will be ordering out brushes for the main anyway. Should I replace exciter brushes also? Well any help will be greatly appreciated. This is a 69 code 6633 red face, round generator f163. ThanksLast edited by jrpalmer; 06-01-2008 at 07:06 PM.Reason: misspelling

Reply:Bills welder is very helpful. I had a 77 sa200 the same thing happened to me my shunt field coils had went bad. But I had a rat in mine and shorted them out. I worked it and let it set for 2 years and got it out and it ran but no arc just a little spark. I was told to excite the field you mite ask k sellon at bills about that also. Hope this helps. |
