Just posting some of my work to get into the community here and get feedback. I did what the customer wanted, no less and no more. Its a case cx460 with a 52" wide bucket. It was already double walled and I suggested to cut it all out and start fresh but the customer wanted it done this way. Just cover the holes with a large section.

Reply:And there's me. Just for a visual of the size of the bucket and machine.

Reply:That bucket's seen better days.I hate when someone does not want to fix something the right way. Sometimes you spend more time grinding all the crap out than cutting and replacing the entire part. This is mostly the case with trailers and heavy equipment.Sent from my SPH-L710 using TapatalkTOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE

Reply:Mild steel 3/8"Like I said I suggested the correct ways but this is what the customer wanted. I have noticed a pattern with this particular guy where he wants it fixed but doesn't want the "real" fix. He likes seeing patches and scabs I guess.
Reply:Nice work. I would've went the way you suggested it done if I was having you do the repair. "Cutting out and replacing it" Or if I was repairing it and it were mine. I'd replace it like you suggested. But you got to do what the customer wants. I'd love to have a machine like that. I almost got to play on one almost that size that was for sale. It was an old beat up one. And the guy selling it was gonna let me play with it in his big yard even though I couldn't afford to buy it. But I didn't have time to play with it that day. As I had to get back home. And a few days later he sold it. He was asking $5,000.00 for it and if I had the money I would've bought it. Chad

Reply:I've had pretty good luck cutting the outer wear skin off those and just adding hardox wear bars to the outside of the bucket and the lip is starting to look thin, esco has some screaming deals on new lips with adaptors and teeth
Reply:Your work looks great!! But I must say... It always blows my mind how people that own half million dollar pieces of equipment are worried about an extra couple thousand when it comes time to rebuild the buckets... My family business has multiple excavators all 160 and down size machines... All of our buckets are ready for the apocalypse.I must say tho. At least on excavators in the 30k lb class we have had great life out of buckets built with mild steel. And these are all machines that handle rock and other abrasive materials almost every day. Usually 2500-3500 hours.Miller Dynasty 300 DXMiller CST280Miller Maxstar 150 STH

Reply:Ya this metal won't last long. I'm going to imagine that machine weighs right in and around 45-50 ton. But if there weren't cheap owners therewwouldn't be as much small work every so often.

Reply:My mechanic doesn't like the way the operator runs the equipment he hard on it sometimes he thinks the operator and the owner are both idiotsthe owner thinks he's great because he gets the job done asapthe welder thinks he's wearing out stuff quick so he has to fix thing and has steady employment doing itThe operator thinks he's great and can do anything within reasonI need a raise because i am them Last edited by killdozerd11; 06-25-2014 at 08:38 AM.Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me What would SATAN do ??
