How do you stop the arc at the end, pull it away? What about the postflow at the end, isn't it important?
Reply:If it's a lift arc machine you should either have a torch switch or foot pedal. When you finish the weld you turn off the juice and hold your torch at the end of your run. For how long is up to debateThermal arc 211iCk flex-loc 150 & 130Clamps, saws & grindersHarbor freight 80 amp inverter
Reply:Yes it is important without post flow while your bead is still hot/molten oxygen will cause oxidation which can leave porosity, craters and dirty looking welds.Thermal arc 211iCk flex-loc 150 & 130Clamps, saws & grindersHarbor freight 80 amp inverter
Reply:Now that you've got me thinking does your rig have a gas solenoid ?Thermal arc 211iCk flex-loc 150 & 130Clamps, saws & grindersHarbor freight 80 amp inverter
Reply:If so you should have settings for post flow.Thermal arc 211iCk flex-loc 150 & 130Clamps, saws & grindersHarbor freight 80 amp inverter
Reply:Some lift start has remote control, some doesn't. When you are ready to end the weld you speed up the travel so that the puddle will "dry up". When it does, you snap out to stop the arc then hold the torch over the end of the weld to keep it shielded.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:All the lift start machines I have used, none of them had a peddle or gas solenoid. The tig torch had a gas valve on it.  As stated, snap the torch away to break the arc and immediately move the torch back over the end of the weld for your desired post flow shielding. Reply:You long arc the torch or speed up and trail off the puddle then snap the torch away after the puddle has solidified, so nothing can grow out of it.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com

It makes it really nice to use, touch the tungsten to the steel and the gas starts, lift the torch and the arc starts. Only thing I don't like is that the post flow can't be changed if you want to keep the end of the weld silver.
