what is the most effective machine to cut 3/4" x 3" flatbar on 45 deg angle, not a miterall info will be helpfull. I have a dry cut saw but the blade wouldnt last cutting flatbar on the flat. I dont want a cold saw, to costly for one application.Ironworker shear?plasma?
Reply:How many?
Reply:Not clear which way the 45 goes. Please clarify. Making a box or a picture frame?Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:picture frame.alot everyday.I could use an ironworker for lots of jobs but want to know if it will make these cuts.45 deg flat cut not a miterLast edited by g-man; 08-10-2011 at 09:11 PM.
Reply:The iron worker will shear it and won't be a perfectly straight cut....when viewed from the side.
Reply:Can you bandsaw cut it? Then build an angle jig to belt sand it at the final angle in order to finish off any imperfections in the bandsaw cut. for $129 you can buy one of those cheap HF bandsaws.ESAB Heliarc 252
Reply:Iron workers are quick, but as mentioned you might be left with a ragged edge. I would probably set up rig to cut it with the dry cut saw. So the bar is held edge up. Depending on the saw you could build a miter block, that would rotate the whole saw 45 degrees to the base. Attached ImagesIan TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:where are you located at?  some member here may have a cold saw they would rent to you or allow you to use.  Myself, bought a nice haberle coldsaw at auction and never looked back.

Reply:Miter, from the Latin mitra, meaning angled or beveled surface. Instead of building a block to hold the saw head at the angle, make a block to hold the work at the angle. I like the bandsaw idea the best.
Reply:Just sub it out....I hate sawing material's lol I did a figure the other day on a bunch of square tubing 280 feet, 178 pieces all mitered, for me to saw it i figured about 4 to 5 hours, the company i got the material quote from ( didn't have any in stock ) quoted me 70$ for all my cuts... i cant even operate my saw that cheap. then i gotta move all the material bla bla bla lolThe first parts a joke, The story is true.... Needless to say i didnt cut any of the materials for this project lol .I forgot how to change this.
Reply:how is a cold saw too expensive  but an Ironworker  is not?    let me know where I can buy an Ironworker for less than my Evo saw and I will be all over that deal.   you are wanting to cross cut at a 45 degree angle.   liquid cooled band saw would work great if you are doing a lot of them.  just stack half a dozen of them in and let it do its thingTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Evolution vs a "cold cut saw".  Yea, right. Some posters are really showing their lack of understanding of the tools used in the metal fabrication business.Next, I guess, we'll be hearing about how a plasma cutter will do the same thing as a water jet.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
