i just been given a ranger 8 welder about three years old and has 36 hours on it.Its been sitting not having been used for about 18 months.Had to clean carb.engine runs fine but i have no current at weld leads it does produce elec at 110 plug can anyone help me out.thanks

Reply:If the machine has been sittin outside unused there is a possibility that the contacts on the rotor are all corroded. If you open the machine up, right where the engine shaft meets the welder you will see a set of brass rings. There are two finger like contacts that follow those rings and they have to be clean, actually they should be shiny and smooth. If there not thats probably the problem. Your not getting voltage out of the rotor. Take some fine sand paper and alcohol and clean them up real nice. As the machine runs they will keep themselves clean in the future, hope this helps.
