The blade on my Milwaukee Portaband is not sraight where it comes thru the two sets of cam followers, it leans a bit to one side making a straight cut difficult. It is pressing against the inboard cams on both guides and not touching the outboard sides at all. Are the cam followers supposed to be close enough together so the blade cannot lean? There is no adjustment on them and they all measure exactly .50 with a caliper, so it doesn't look like they are worn, but they are spaced apart more than twice the thickness of the blade. I want it to be straight since I have aquired a table mount for the saw and I can't cut a 90 on it.Miller Challenger 172Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC 225/150Miller Maxstar 150 STLVictor 100CVictor JourneymanOxweld OAHarris O/ASmith O/A little torchNo, that's not my car.
Reply:Nah the cams/rollers can't be too tight. The blade lays like that because it's being forced over. I guess they figure that since it is normally hand held and hand guided that being perfectly straight doesn't matter. Maybe just poor design too. After a lot of usage you'll actually wear the outer edges of two of the rollers and the inner edges of the other two. Once they get to that point you should really get new rollers. I took mine off and reversed their positions. Cheep and cheap. My intent was to go get new rollers but you know how that goes. Anyway to straighten up the blade you can add some thin tapered shims under the roller blocks to roll the blade straighter. That's what I did initially then when it eventually started cutting at an angle again is when I noticed the wear pattern."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Here's a couple of shots of my redneck solution. Some light brass rod wrapped into a horse shoe shape then hammered (tapped) to a taper and filed to finish size and flush fit. These might be both of the same roller block but I did one for each of the two blocks.
