Well I have a ranger 8 with just under 1400 hours and I am wondering what upkeep things should I do with it. It has not been ran a lot in the past few years, but I am keeping it busy now. I have cleaned most connections that I can think of. What other things should I do to keep it running strong for years to come? What oil do most of you put in yours? Does any one add lucas? Thanks in advance, Matt
Reply:My Ranger 275 has 1700 hours on it. I use straight 40 wt oil in it (it rarely freezes here but it does get very hot in the summer time and the hot weather lasts about 9 months out of the year) and a Fram high mileage filter. Change oil every 100 hours and oil and filter at 200 with a new fuel filter as well. I put plugs in as needed and service the battery every time I change the oil. I don't use any additives in the oil. Check the oil before you crank it each time you use it. It's an air cooled engine and I have yet to see one that doesn't use a little oil. I use the same schedule with my Eagle 10,000 (only 700 hours on it though). The Ranger has a 20hp Honda engine and the Eagle has a 22hp Kohler. If your Ranger has the Onan the oil change interval is 50 hours. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
