TIG welded these boat trailer steps for a buddy. Little bit of MIG welding on the gussets. The steps go in front of and behind the wheel fenders. He bought the kit(pre bent) and I plasma cut 0.875 off the open end and I welded 0.180 inch thick mounting plates that will bolt to the trailer. The steps are 0.075 inch thick, so I thought TIG would be the way to go. Set machine at 100 amps and used a foot pedal. Welds were ok, I need TIG practice. Ground the welds flat and rounded the corners, they came out nice. MIG welded in a 0.180 thick rib/gusset for strength near the middle on the long steps. Fun little project, will be doing the tail light boxes next. He's planning on painting and putting sticky sand paper like tape on the fenders so we won't slip with wet feet.
