Reply:So,As you can see, these tapped holes are corroded out beyond repair. So,I'm drilling them out with a 13/16" drill bit.Went in about 2"....These are 19mm bolts that thread into it.So,I'll be welding nuts on like such.
Reply:Here's a video drilling the holes out....
Reply:Got the holes all bored out, top surface ground and sanded clean, and the nuts sanded.Time to tack.
Reply:If the bolts are galvanized grinding the outside is good but itis still going to make a mess......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:I will get you fellas a pic of them in service.I won't argue the fact that it wasn't good for me to be welding and breathing these parts.I will probably have a couple more batches to do.John
Reply:Looking good John, can't wait to see more.-Jonathan

Reply:That will work. Maybe next ones try some extra heavy nuts.
Reply:Thanks for the compliments....and everything else.Here's a quick video.Enjoy.
Reply:Ok,The pic in my last post is 3 parts. You guys probably know that there is no such thing as a 3 sided roller. There ain't.The guy I'm doing them for, kept the 4th one, and was going to see about buying a tap.The tap would've cost $81.He'll be bringing the 4th one by to get repaired. Now,Here's the story on the machines they go on.Case IH 8650 round bale wrapper.
Reply:Those pieces I worked on, are used to extend or retract those steel roller cones, depending on the size of your bale.I have a second batch to do.

Reply:Raising the roller pin height isn't going to affect the roller or operation of the baler? Not sure that background on this job but if I had the time, I probably would have tried to leave the overall height untouched and found a way to put threads back into the pin. However I do a lot of work for farmers, spent most of my life on one also and I know that with VT weather the way it is if a piece of hay equipment breaks with the sun shining and the grean cut and drying the will pull out all the stops to get it back working again. Even if its not a repair I agree with I will usually state my option and go along with their choice provided I feel that there is no human danger involved. For repairs like this I have learned to sub out some of the work to a machine shop. Number of different ways to go at it. you could cut the spindles off and replace with new Im guessing they probably arnt heat treated or probably I would have them bored out and a weld prep treaded insert pressed in. Not saying your wrong in what you chose to do just another idea. Lord knows people wouldn't always agree with the way I do things either but as long as its a lasting repair and the customer is happy I say success regardless on how you got there. One last thing to consider though is if there are local machine shops find one to work with it may turn out to be more work for you and I find that having one to work with make for a much better product on your part. Unless you have the time, place and money for equipment to learn the machining end of this work. wish I did but I don't.I am totally understanding of your given points there. There is one thing you missed, just because I never pointed it out.I will get these done, and install them on the machine, get lots of pics, and even make a YouTube video of them functioning. Now,One question for you all.Should I run a second weave pass over the weld around the nuts???John

Reply:Originally Posted by sbchp355The other question is are all the pins the same length or did you cut the thickness of the nut off the end to compensate for height difference. In the pics they don't look cut just clean up with a grinder. Just realized you live in Alaska you better get the baler done **** your hay season must only be about 3 weeks long for the year.
Reply:Looks good!
Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749Basically if the dude was going to forego you repairing the rest of them, he would more than likely be bringing the rest back to you later when he realized he couldn't fix them himself
Reply:Second batch is done....
Reply:Got these all done.Using my Esab 161, on 115v, 3/32 excalibur.Don't beat me up over them either. If everything was perfect, welding would never of been invented. The first ones I did are already in use, so I'll go out to his farm and get a video for you all. Thanks,~John
