Alright after a few weeks of deciding and waiting I bought a ln25 today. The guy that had it ran it on a 250 idealarc with a contactor installed in it. He ran the ln on dc - and I want to run it on my 2012 bobcat 225. What is the proper way to set my polarity for this machine. I know I set it to wire in the welder. But should I switch my leads around and run it in dc- ? Or just set the machine to wire and run it?Miller Bobcat 255Hobart 190 and spoolgunLincoln AC 225Lincoln LN-25Rock and Roll hoochie coo
Reply:Yes, assuming you want to run that polarity....(depending on wire of course) Putting it to the mig setting will not change the polarityEsab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:I run my LN25 on a Cigweld MPM 8/270K diesel and it doesn't work when the welder is in mig mode because it has no control cable. I just set the volts on the welder and run it in stick mode, with the voltage sensor wire on the job. I generally use DCEP for solid/bare wire and also dual shield.
Reply:Doesnt the Bobcat have a polarity switch? My TB does. You need to let us know if you are going to run FC or MIG, that determines the polarity you are going to run.
Reply:Looks like it. No cable swapping needed. The Thermal-arc, and Lincoln machines I've had you changed cables for Polarity.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:i plan on doing mainly mild steel with it, my bobcat only has the two knobs on the front the knob on the left is for selecting wire or stick or ac stick through amperage ranges and the other is for fine adjust on amp/volts what is the best way to hook my ln25 up to my bobcat?Miller Bobcat 255Hobart 190 and spoolgunLincoln AC 225Lincoln LN-25Rock and Roll hoochie coo
Reply:it has cv and vv switch on the inside and the analog volt meter on the front with the hi lo switch for wire speed. i sound like a complete NoOb here on this but this is my first ever wire feeder. i tested it before buying it. works great and runs very smooth. The former owner like i stated before ran it on a idealarc 250 round top with a cv mod in it and ran it on DCEN and he ran it like that for over 20 years. i on the other hand have a bobcat 225 and at my shop i have a thunderbolt 225 acdc cc. what do i have to do to run the ln25 on both of these machinces Miller Bobcat 255Hobart 190 and spoolgunLincoln AC 225Lincoln LN-25Rock and Roll hoochie coo
Reply:Wire type will dictate polarity . For the Thunderbolt, just set the LN-25 to CC use (DC) Bobcat I would use CV, but it will also run on CC setting. The LN-25 will work both ways..Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:I plan on using hobart .35 solid wire in it. The machine has only had 3 spools ran in it since it was new back in 91. And those are the big spools. I'm was nervous at first to run it on the thunderbolt. As for polarity I should run decp or dcen? For solid wire with this machine?Miller Bobcat 255Hobart 190 and spoolgunLincoln AC 225Lincoln LN-25Rock and Roll hoochie coo
Reply:I have my 12vs feeder hooked up to my bobcat like this Notice where I use the stinger to clamp into a lug on the back if the feeder, some guys will use a quick coupler. Then as you can see in the picture I set the polarity switch to "wire -" because I'm using fluxcore wire and start welding after I set the voltage on the welder and the wire feed on the suitcase
Reply:I used to do the "clamp the lug thing", til it shorted out on a scraper fuel tank. Just some turkey tracks and no fire luckily. since then its Twecos all the way for me, even shortproofed my gouging torch connections.
Reply:thanks for the help guys. i mainly plan on using it with the thunderbolt right now. but one day i do plan on running fluxcore in it and keeping it on my service truck. i dont want to sound like a broken record but i dont want to mess this machine up that this gentleman that was like a father to me sold to me. His health isnt the best anymore and really couldnt go into great detail on setting the machine up on a different machine. this ln25 was set up 23 years ago and was never switched to a diff machine. i want to make sure i know whats going on with it. for running on the thunderbolt and running .35 and 75 25 gas do i want to run it on dcen or ? i really appreciate the help from you all on this. ive ran mig and stick my entire time welding but never a suitcase style machine. any info on what to do and not to do will be greatly appreciatedMiller Bobcat 255Hobart 190 and spoolgunLincoln AC 225Lincoln LN-25Rock and Roll hoochie coo

Reply:thanks 12v71 i plan on trying it out on the thunderbolt tomorrow as thats the only dc power source at my shop.Miller Bobcat 255Hobart 190 and spoolgunLincoln AC 225Lincoln LN-25Rock and Roll hoochie coo
Reply:when i ran the machine on his set up it ran pretty good and nice and smooth. The gentleman i got it from used it for years in his shop in my area building trailers and bbq cookers and many other various things. all the work he did with it looked very smooth and clean. the gentleman took me under his wing and got me my first welding job and has since became a friend and mentor so it meant alot to me that he chose to sell it to me.Miller Bobcat 255Hobart 190 and spoolgunLincoln AC 225Lincoln LN-25Rock and Roll hoochie coo
Reply:I don't think you will like it as much on your TBolt. Aid just run it off the bobcat in CV.

Reply:I fired up the ln last night on the thunderbolt and it actually ran pretty decent. I was welding 3/16ths angle no problem with uniform beads. But it really came to life when I hooked it up to my bobcat. Great arc quality and very nice performance. After a hour of dialing it in I got a phone call from a customer and I had to do a repair so I wound up using the ln for that. Ran great and couldn't be happier.
