Reply:Where did you pick that up?Ace Custom Fabrication - Calgary welder specializing in oilfield fabrication, structural welding, design services, heavy equipment fabrication, and plant maintenance.
Reply:Sweet! I've been out picking up some deals today also. I suspect you'll use quite a bit. Can't go wrong with a good Jabob's chuck. What brand is the arbor?

Reply:Grrrrrrrr....I hate those keyed chucks....the damm key teeth always get burred over and the key always goes walk about.Still, if'n the price was right you can't complain......R8 is a cool system.....use to have it on my Bridgeport before my mate liked it too much and I sold it to him and bought an Ajax turret mill (also on Ebay), similar to the Bridgeport but bigger table etc......also had feeds and fast traverse on all axis and had an ISO 40 taper in the spindle.Long story short.....I previously bought (from the USA on Ebay) a Tree boring and facing head, only problem was it was R8 shank......I love that boring head like I love the family jewels, so I bought an adaptor to go from INT40 to R8, so while I let all the other tooling for the Bridge go to my mate I kept the boring head.At the same time I had a Rohm 1/2" keyless drill chuck with a 3 Morse taper shank, and I kept that too as it also gets used in my lathe. The keyless drill chuck has to be the best thing since sliced bread, and once you use one....say no more.Ian.
Reply:scored another drill chuck today... its not a Jacobs though, its a Cushman with a 5/8" straight shank. Cushmans are a good brand of japanese import, I paid $20 for it,like new, used very little... Reply:Yep, It pays to get decent tools.I'm still looking for one of those small 1/4" capacity keyless chucks, preferably with a 2 morse arbor for all the small driiling jobs, (Ive already got a keyed Jacobs 1/4" with extended 2 morse arbor) but so far they want $60 on Ebay.....looking, looking....LOL.Ian. |
