Hi Guys been offered a straight swap for my welding generator for a STT11 unit.does anyone use this machine and how do you find it.I would use it 99% of the time for 18/20# stainless has anyone tried the unit on such thin material or is it more suited to 16#+Would love to hear any comments on the machine.CheersDaniel
Reply:Krum,I wish I could offer you some information but I have no idea what a STT11 is.  Nevertheless, if that's you in your avitar just take it!  No one is going to fight you for it.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:STT is a 3 phase only machine as well.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Does it come with a STT feeder like a STT-10 , or an LN742, kinda useless with out the STT feeder. Now the unit can be run on single phase, it's just not recommended, so they don't list it.It's NOT a CV machine, and its NOT a CC machine either. Kind of a complex hybrid used mostly for pipe applicationsLast edited by Cruizer; 10-13-2008 at 12:26 PM.
Reply:The STT is a purpose built machine for root runs on line pipe. It replaces the TIG process in pipe work. In this country we use them to build wine tanks. Instead of tig welding.Have a look at the pdf link herehttp://content.lincolnelectric.com/p...ature/e452.pdfand here http://content.lincolnelectric.com/a...E4_52STTII.pdfI run a small manufacturing company and around 40% of our work is in manufacturing race mufflers from thin gauge stainlesssee herewww.adrenalinr.comJust wondering if you guys had run a unit like this before, i've used the first gen machine on 16# stainless with good results.Just to give you an idea i live in a wine growing region of New Zealand with a pop of around 120k i know of at least 3 of the first gen units in the area but this is the first of the second gen.I currently use a V350pro with the LN742 to pulse weld the baffles to the main body, but the rest of the units are done with pulse tig.I think your right cruizer if it doesn't come with the new wire feeder it's probably no good.My thought was the V350 is not really getting used for what it's designed for maybe i should sell it and run the STT.Will let you guys know how the trials go!Oh and one day i'll post up the water cooler unit i built.....

Reply:Hi Brand XWhat are you trying to say? three phase isn't a problem for meI'd love to hear from someone who uses the unit for thin gauge stainless work, done some digging on the net turns out BMW use them for welding the roofs on those X5 suv things....something about full peno max control weldingi dont really need max peno just low heat input, low bead profile and a high travel speed.the tig torch isn't that bad really!
Reply:What we are saying, is this machine has a definate purpose, and without a specific feeder you are hooped for the STT process.
Reply:ok deals now changed to swapping the V350pro power source for the STT2Both run the LN742 which is capable of the STT process.Hopefully having a trial today, see what these machines can do.....

Reply:Ok tried it today people took 5min to set up, no spatter at all, very strange just a perfect arc 95% of time every now and then wire would dip and cause some hiss and light spatter which doesn't stick, well just the odd spark thrown out of arc.Tried it on 0.9mm to 1.2mm stainless or 203 TO 18# for you US boys.Very nice oxide layer is still graying up needs a backing cup or something to keep gas over HAZ until cooling has finished.I'll get some pics up when i remember to pull my phone out.
