I came in to find these waiting for me...These are usually bent (Yes It Was) and we cut off the rod end and turn and thread the piston end...Note says..."We will take off the big end and replace it so just turn and thread the end the piston goes on"Easy enough I say to myself..After lining up the ends I notices a slight problem..Someone forgot to add the last 3.5 inchesSo there is only one option seeing they are not going to spend any more $$$$$ for a new piece..(4"OD Chrome Plated Shaft 92" Long)...Time for a new end.New End...Bore and counterbore in the shaft...One more time......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:So now we heat the rod end and install the new threaded end..   .003 Shrink....Weld after cooling somewhat...(yeah I know they suck but what do I care...being turned off anyway..)Now to see how good I really am...Using the center hole in the threaded end and NOT using a steadyrest it's time for the indicator "De-liar"...Set to zero...Turn chuck 180 and see how much it runs out....001 is excellent!....(Sorry .. Got The Pics Backwards..)Face end weld and now we are done...There.A perfectly undetectable repair.I get all the fun jobs......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Mad skills.  I don't NEED to be able to do that kind of thing, but I WISH I had the ability!  Nice...

Reply:Nice job as always.  Just as a point of discussion I believe I would of done it a little different. I would of drilled and tapped the rod at which point there's several ways to go from there. My favorite would of been to just used a grade 8 bolt to bolt the piston on. I've seen several heavy duty cylinders which that is the attachment method from the factory. Less work that way. But you could of made a stud to of screwed into the rod as well.Millermatic 252XMT 304'sDynasty 280DXHypertherm PowerMax 1250Miller Trailblazer 302 EFIOptima PulserXR feeder and XR Edge gun and more athttp://members.dslextreme.com/users/waynecook/index.htm

Reply:Zap, all of us are usually good at something. Maybe, just maybe I might be better at something than you. Notice I said maybe! Anyway, it is a joy to see the work of a true CRAFTSMAN, and I mean that as the highest compliment! You take great pride in your work, and it's something lots of us can relate to. Sad thing is I've chit canned rods before never knowing it were possible to repair. Live and learn, huh.                   ChuckTo ride, shoot straight, and speak the truth.
