The manual for the Clausing 6300 series of Lathes is very sparse, and doesn't cover the 6301 very well. It looks like the head stock may have a bit of a taper on the end. My old Atlas had a #3 morse taper, but this looks like it would have to be a 5 or 6 perhaps. Maybe not even a morse taper. Nothing is mentioned in my manual.New 6301s had a #3 morse taper in the tail stock. This older one has a #2.I was hoping someone might be familiar with this machine. Thanks,
Reply:I had a 6300 in my home shop long ago. Excellent lathes capable of sub-.001" accuracy. The spindle taper should be 5MT stub. You would use a reducing sleeve down to 3MT. Morse taper stub are just shortened versions of the standard MT. The 5C collet adapter will be 5MT to 5C. Dutch
Reply:My 6329 is a Morse 4 1/2 taper as are all the other 6300's I'm aware of. Not to say there aren't some out there with other tapers as it wasn't uncommon for some shops to special order. 4 1/2 MT is the smallest to accept 5C collets. Are you sure there isn't a reducinf sleeve in the T/S?
Reply:My bad memory. Looks to be MT4 1/2. here's a parts manual:https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&p...CM7DqJsD&pli=1http://www.d-and-d.com/misc/MANUALS/...eOnly-1958.pdf
Reply:Thank you guys. Looking with Google, then Enco, then other places, a 4 1/2 MT adapter isn't under every rock. I'll give Clausing a call on Monday to see how bad it will be.
Reply:If you have a taper attachment, you could make one yourself.
