Hello all, New guy here. I've always wanted to learn to weld for various reasons and recently was offered a Weld Pak 100HD from an acquaintance for $20.00. I thought it was a good buy as they retail at the Depot for $400.00 plus. Although I did not test it the 100HD looked brand new and I figured if it needed some TLC I could manage. Well....Long story short the fan motor and wire feed did not function on the unit. After replacing the fan motor, the wire feed motor did not work. I took a look at the schematic and made sure all was right with the wiring. Still no luck. I then noticed the ground wire was not tightened down enough. After tightening... Low and behold the unit started rocking and rolling. Fast forward a couple of days and in the middle of some practice welds. The wire motor quits feeding again. Checked all connections and could not find a thing. I hear the switch clicking when the trigger on the gun is pulled but no rotation on the wire feed. As a side note when I went to purchase a welding helmet at the Depot I noticed that all the Lincoln welders they sold were pulled off the shelves and replaced with recall signs. I know I didn't pay much for the welder and it's not the greatest unit but I can't afford to buy a new one and figured someone here might have had a similar issue or some guidance. Thanks in advance for any help.
Reply:My Lincoln 100 is still working 10 years later for a friend. It sounds like you need a drive motor. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Thanks for the response Rojodiablo. One thing I forgot to mention the welder does not arc either. Prior to the second time the motor went out it still arced without the drive motor turning.

Reply:I assume you've checked your internal circuit breaker already, so all there is really is a board, I'd pull it and check for smoke damage. When you replaced your fan motor, was it from Lincoln or a jobber as this unit also has the transformer inside of it to power everything else.
Reply:Thanks for the reply guys.captdave2612: I don't think it's the trigger because I hear the solenoid clicking when I hit the trigger. Also I have no ark when toughing the gun to a workpiece.Cruizer: I'm going to take a look at the board today. The replacement fan motor was indeed a Lincoln part. My original had the male connectors coming straight off of the motor. The new one has male connectors attached to wires coming off the motor.I really appreciate the help guys. I don't have the cash to take this to a dealer. Thanks!
Reply:Quick update, I took a good look at the front and rear of the board and no signs of damage or burnt components. Made sure all connections were tight. I will snap a picture of the interior and post tommorow. Thanks againJack |
