Jib Arm Questiony

It's been a while since I've been on here due to not having a shop at the house I'm at currently.    I am in the process of building a 3250sqft shop and I already have a jib arm rated at 1000lbs.At my old place I had it mounted to a 10' high 6x6 3/8 thick square.  The only downside was that it was too low.  I need it to be about 16 feet high.  My question is what size of steel should I useto mount this jib arm to?  I was thinking about 8x8 1/2" thick wall 17 feet high with 3-4 foot in the ground concreted in with supporting bars protruding diagonally for support.     What would you guys recommend for this?---No good deed goes unpunished---

Reply:The length of the arm is crucial to any calculations.All free standing commercial jib pillars I've seen are round.  I have seen new steel buildings with rafter uprights spec'd from the factory for jib crane attachment.  It adds relatively little to the cost of the building.
Reply:The jib " column " needs to be pipe.....8" scd. 40 sounds about rite......Check with a crane manufacturer for correct / engineered info.....
