Does anybody out there have any idea how to join two pieces of copper plate together? Rivets, bolts etc. can not be used also it needs to be resistant to 1 1/2 Bar pressure and water tight. ThanksWayne H
Reply:Solder, braze, or tig weld...Rich
Reply:I believe it is in Metals And How To Weld Them from the Lincoln foundation. Some sheet doesn't lend itself to TIG welding. I haven't done it, I want a kitchen island covered with it. I'd edge it with water pipe. Solder would reduce distortion, it's a different color. An optimist is usually wrong, and when the unexpected happens is unprepared. A pessimist is usually right, when wrong, is delighted, and well prepared.

Reply:ManoKai,The size varies, but for example take an 8x4 copper sheet then about 16 pressed copper lids (like a biscuit tin lid) 12"x8"x 3/4" deep with a 1" lip all around. This is what is needed to be fixed to the 8x4 as i said earlier each capsule needs to be water thight and pressure tested up to 2 Bar.Regards
Reply:Sil-Phos solder. No flux required on copper, works great!
Reply:2 Bar is 29 psi, I had to look it up. I would expect some distortion, and safety considerations apply to pressurized tanks of any kind. The simplest suggestion is Sil-Phos solder, no flux. I would use an oxy-acetylene torch. It is possible that an acetylene-air torch would work, and I am sure that an oxy-propane torch would work. Sil-Phos is a brand name, but there are equivalent products from other companies. I believe that I have heard it referred to as Phos-copper rod. Note that the color will be silver, not copper color. If you need color match, use oxy-acetylene with silicon bronze filler and flux.Last edited by 7A749; 10-21-2015 at 10:53 PM.Sculptures in copper and other metalshttp://www.fergusonsculpture.comSyncrowave 200 Millermatic 211Readywelder spoolgunHypertherm 600 plasma cutterThermal Arc GMS300 Victor OA torchHomemade Blacksmith propane forge
