During the process of removing the spindle I accidently bent the bearing cover that sits inside the housing(shown in the 1st picture below). Before putting everything back together I wanted to see if there was any issues with this, if it was critical and needs to be replaced or what have you? Its pretty thin and I'm assuming its not that big of a deal but I want to be sure.
Reply:Not sure if if that part sits up against the bearing or not? YOu could take a small stone and stone the raised area down until it is smoothed out. I have done partial restorations on a couple of machine tools and would lightly stone any mating surfaces (including ways) with a medium India stone just to make sure there wasn't anything to intefer with the fits. Old habit from working in a tool room. You will feel any burrs as a slight resistance to the stone.Good luck with the project. It is a good feeling to put a piece of old iron back into working order.
