My father bought a truck that was rolled just for its engine and now we have left is the frame and bed so we decided to turn it into a trailer like this https://www.google.com/search?q=goog...F%3B1379%3B666 now I would like some opinions and suggestions. I was thinking of using 3/32 7018s for the welding of the frame since half ton truck frames are about 3/16 thick and 7018 is a rod that has good weld flexibility and strength and for the minor non-critical stuff 6011. I have a 180 amp DC stick welder for the welding which is more than enough for the frame and material ill use which is 3/16 to 1/4 mild steel. Does anyone have any opinions, tips, and pointers? also pictures will help. Also I will practice a lot with 7018s before i use them since I don't get the chance to use them often.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
Reply:My old man would use 6010. He said it would flex and stretch better than 7018 as it would be rigid and crack at the toe of the weld. I figure he's been welding longer than I been alive and has done a dozen or so truck trailer chop do who am I to argue.sent while goofing off at workLong after the price is forgotten, the quality will remain. Both of my Poppy's 1954 Short Hoods -Third generation to weld with it and teaching a fourthSA 2## - Bought and sold more than I can remember or care to list, 8 in the shop right now
Reply:One of my first welding projects as a teen was I built a trailer from the box of my Dad's '59 1/2ton Ford that our barn fell on due to snow overload.I used channel iron for the frame, a shortened house trailer axle and used the AC only Lincoln buzz box I learned on. Trailer served us well and I have no idea what my Dad did with it but he probably sold it.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:Just make sure you make the tongue long if it's a short bed. The axle in the short bed is too close to center and will make the trailer weave badly while towing it. Putting a tool box on the tongue will help as it will put more weight up front.
Reply:6010 would be fine for it all then? adam arc. Its a long bed truck.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools

Reply:I think I will go with 7018s for all the main critical components to be safe.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools |
