Spent about an hour and a half in the garage practicing. 30 minutes prepping coupons and tungstens, and about an hour of seat time. I had 5 coupons. From left to right 1/8th plate, 3/8ths bar, 1/4 bar, 3/8ths bar and another 1/4 bar. I would put three beads on each then rotate to the next one. on everything except the 1/8th plate, I was running about 110 amps. On the 1/8th I was everywhere from 70-110. Couldn't seem to find a heat setting that didn't leave me with flat gray beads. All the others we shiny at least, until I ran a few more beads next to them. Scratch start, 3/32 gold band tungsten, #6 gas lens cup and 15 cfh of Argon. Some of these I was trying to "pad beads" and some I wasn't. I need to work on my steadiness for sure. I am kind of settling in and figuring out what works for propping my arms and getting comfortable. I still haven't figured out how to avoid the crater without a foot pedal, but I am working on it...adding more filler, circling the torch and then drawing it back over the weld before breaking off. Really doesn't work. Welcome any and all comments/advice. Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:Coming along Louie. I see some areas where you had it going on, and then I see some areas that are just...meh. They are only for practice so quench before your next pass. Just my guess on the inconsistency are the heat variables. Your technique is staying the same but overheated test pieces give you variable results. Get some rainbow colors in those beads and wire brush the area for your next pass, and that will help determine if everything is correct. Hard to tell when everything is just grey. Hard to tell if it's been overheated or not.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Looks like welding. Try some lap joints etc. Having a seam to follow is really helpful.SqWave 200Millermatic 190Airco 200 ACHypertherm PM45Boice-Crane Band SawVictor O/A
