Had to replace a spring pack amongst other things on a mack dump truck, and like usual I was on my own so I rigged up my floor jack to give me a hand. Nothing fancy but figured it might help someone out in the future.
Reply:Very nice.
Reply:Very nice +1 your thinking is safer than a helper for the fingers...Don't ask how i learned...
Reply:I've done literally dozens of "Camelback" springs, insulators, bushings, etc. by my lonesome and that is the way to do it. My home brew adapter is similar and clamps on.  I also made an adapter to support the driveline for removing by oneself utilizing a long reach floor jack. This stuff is so heavy you either need a shop crane, or forklift to move it or you're gonna get hurt.Good job on the design.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....

Reply:That's the way to go.  Makes life easier.Felt about the same when I did the Dayton hub caddy.  My back said "thanks""Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:That's a great looking adapter that you have built. I bet it really helps you get the job done.
Reply:Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, the longer I do this work the more I look for little ways to save my back. I also built one that works great for fuel tanks.  Slob I think I'll build one for drive lines that's a great idea.
Reply:I use the driveline jack a lot. If you make an adapter use either a chain and cinch assembly, or a piece of round pipe you can fasten around the driveshaft tube. You really don't want that driveline rolling off the jack saddle. Even if it misses you on it's way to the floor it can bend the tube rendering the shaft useless. I actually have two; one three feet in length, the other nearly six feet. The longer one will handle a two piece shaft with the carrier intact. It's a lot easier to build it up without being under a truck. The photo of that dump truck looked to be on 38K rears; converted tractor by chance? A bit light of rating for much dumper work and be expected to live.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:Ya the history as I know it is grandpa bought it as bare frame and plate converted to a short spreader truck that he put lime down for local farmers, the put the dump bed on it when the local coop's starting buying dry rigs. My uncle now uses it to haul occasionally for his roustabout business.
Reply:I know the qualities terrible but you got me thinking I that trucks up on the wall in the shop office. Grandpa to a picture of every truck when he got it for years and hung them up by what used to be his desk, now my dads. Any ways got to walk down memory lane a minute.1994 Sorry for Rambling

Reply:I ended up putting all new bolts in, the pack came from a donor truck that's been sitting out here for years. I here you on the axles worked on/ built one winch trucks everyone had or we made slots in the bed to carry extra axles.
Reply:You mention roustabout business? If that for gas or oil work? I have a B-61 Mack that was an oilfield truck used extensively in KS during the later 1950's to mid 1970's. It was a roustabout truck.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:Oil field were in the center of ks, he does lead lines, sets units and tanks and to much misc to mention.
Reply:Never have done any of that type of work myself. Only worked on equipment. Can't say where my old truck actually worked, just been told stories by the original owner when I purchased it over 25 years ago.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
Reply:Well I was only 2 yes old then but I do like those old trucks and feel privledged to get to work on them, that being said you must have a good one because we have 4 on the property and only the one goes anymore
Reply:You have four trucks, or B model Mack trucks? I'm always on the hunt for usable parts. That old oil patch truck runs excellent and is really not beat up but I have four other running B models needing misc. parts. They just don't make that stuff any longer and most supplies have dried up.SlobPurveyor of intimate unparalleled knowledge of nothing about everything.Oh yeah, also an unabashed internet "Troll" too.....
