Okay, first off, let me just say I'm new to this site, so pleeaaaasssseeee bear with me.I run my highschool's ESAB Shadow, and as part of my training in cnc, I need to learn find out what the Mcodes and Gcodes are for an ESAB shadow. After about two days of searching online, and checking any possible site I could find, I have yet to find a accurate and valid definition of the program terms. Wikipedia only has the g-codes and m-codes for a cnc lathe, which doesn't help me any.Any and all help would be appreciated in this, and I will continue the search as this posting sits here awaiting replys. Thanks.
Reply:What does your teacher say about your question?Gcode is the standard code the tables driver software uses to run it's toolpath. I use CAD software to create a file to cut in .dxf format. Then open up my .dxf file in my Torchmate driver s/w and it creates a Gcode file to run in the driver s/w.I cut out 9 different signs yesterday with 16 gauge sheet metal on my Torchmate cnc table.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:He claimed to have had a book on the subject, that gave me the definitions but he's been unable to locate it. Upon checking Wikipedia, we found that the G-Codes seemed to be specific for a Lathe. We use Sigmanest as our CAD program, thanks for the help with the G-codes, now, what about the M-Codes? It seems that they are different for each machine.
Reply:Cant be much of a cnc teacher if he has to look in a book that he cant locate to tell you the answer your looking for.I am not an expert at g code or m code building. My software does this for me but I do have a basic understanding of it (I believe).Gcode is the control of the location and feedrate of your cnc table. (X,Y,Z location and speed).M code is the machine code control. EG: on/off of your plasma cutter etc...On a cnc plasma table, the g code and M code will work together while cutting. If I am off base here, someone will more detailed cnc experience will chime in.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Haha, Thank you so much! This seems right, from the research I did on it this weekend. He's not really a cnc teacher, just a high-school welding teacher. The district bought the machine, and gave him a crash course, so he's having me learn the nuts and bolts so I can do it for a living. Thanks again!
Reply:Excelent. All students in welding school should have cnc experience these days in my opinion. With technology going the way it is, it is a real asset to have. I learned cnc through the school of hard knocks (on my own) which took more time then if I had someone teaching me hands on.CNC is used in so many machines these days, mills, lathes, cutting tables, sewing machines, vinyl/decal cutters and on and on.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Try this. open google, Type in CNC G code then CNC M code. 2 searches I just did and all kinds of stuff came Lists of codes with what they do and even one site that explained how to put everything together so the CNC will work.
Reply:some G codes/M codes for cnc plasma are different on different machine manufacturers. mills and lathes are generic, plasma's are different from lathes and mills.. plasma tables use slightly different codes for functions compared to mills and lathes., generally in the torch height control system and torch on clockwise/ torch on counterclockwise/ torch off (m3/m4/m5 plasma table) compared to a lathe and mills spindle fwd/rev/stop (m3/m4/m5) The c&g aviator/burny phantom w/innova thc we were fooling with , m14 and m15 were different on the burny machine compared to a Torchmate i believe, on the burny it was used as thc on/off.. I think the m14/m15 can be set specifically by the manufacturer, i think they use it as a macro call and set it as the thc on/off.. the only other times i've used m14/m15 in a mill was as a custom macro call.Last edited by brucer; 11-18-2011 at 06:27 AM.tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/ |
