Hi guys. I have '74 sa200 with an f163 with a cracked block but can get a mint f162 for $300. I've seen it run cold and hot , perfect no smoke, 35 psi at idle hot. Would this be a good swap or are there other differences? Any conversion issues? The engine is mid 60's.
Reply:While the swap usually goes the other way around, there should be no major issues. The motors are pretty much identical, as far as bolt up.Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.                                         -Cree Indian ProverbSA 200 LincolnVictor Torches
Reply:If the replacement is another Lincoln welder engine, with gear-driven governor front cover, as Gizzardgutz said, you're probably in.Otherwise it depends on the original application and build-spec of the replacement engine.Externally the F162 and F163 are both the same basic engine, but I wouldn't doubt if Continental probably had at least a thousand different build specs for the F engines.Biggest issue being crankshafts, of which there are several different front stub and rear flange styles.Front cover is another issue. If you have to swap front covers, such as from a lift-truck hydraulic pump-drive cover, to the welder's mag cover, ...one change-over difference can lead to another, and make the swap unworkable.Good Luck

Reply:Thanks guys. The engine is out of a lincoln sa200 so theoretically should match, right? This guy was given 7 sa200's to build one good machine.3 ran with new fuel, 2 took a little work, 2 possibly rebuildable. Built 1 for customer, 1 for himself, 1 to sell complete, rest is selling or keeping for parts plus was paid $500 to build first for customer. Some people have all the luck!
