I used to be fairly creative when I was younger and as we age it seems we tend to lose some of that.  I've been wanting to try and make a few sculptures for over a year now and finally getting around to it.  I built a frame for a freind who is a sculptor but had been using pvc pipe which didn't hold up so he asked me to make him a full size stripper pole and skeletal structure for the stripper out of steel.   The pole was pretty straight forward,  the base will be filled with 80 lbs of concrete to make it even more stable.  Then he came over to the shop one night so we could build her, that was a fun and interesting night...    She'll be holding a gun in her right hand and I can't wait to see her when she's finished. My cousin and sister both just had birthdays and in my usual fashion they will receive their gifts after their birthdays.  Paying jobs always come first so the free jobs get put on the back burner.  I made my cousin a ballerina since she has spent most of her life as one.  Just 1/4" round bar cleaned up with Scotch Brite pad and sealedNow I'm working on a dinosaur for my sister.   This thing is really fun to build.  I have practically no stick welding experience so I decided I'm going to stick weld the whole thing.  No better way to learn than to jump in the deep end.  I did have to mig weld the skull some because I used 14 ga and I kept burning holes in it.   I built the head first to determine the size of the rest of it.
Reply:Some more pics of the head and I've started on the body. The legs.  I will build onto them some more, just wanted to get the form down first. This will be the neck. And here is a pic of my crappy stick welds Hopefully they will be better towards the end of this project.  I have a great deal of respect for guys that can 6G pipe.
Reply:Those are some cool metal art stuff. You did great on them.PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClamps
Reply:not too bad of a lookin weld, lil porosity but you'll get the hang of it. What machine settings and rod brand size are you using?93 Bobcat 225GMillerMatic 135HF Tig 91811
Reply:Dang, I love this forum. Stripper pole has me all worked up I guess.
Reply:I really like all the color in the skirt of the dancer. How did you do that?MM 211Smith Tru Lite O/A set, Thanks Bob!Lincoln AC-225--But you must not change one thing, one pebble, one grain of sand, until you know what good and evil will follow on that act. Reply:Thanks for the compliments. Stick welds done with my precision tig 225, mostly 1/8" 7018 with a little 6011 and 6013 because that's what I have.  Been experimenting with amps but found around 90-100 to work pretty good.Equilibrium, I just used a propane torch to heat the steel just to color change.  Unfortunately I won't get to work on this project for a while.   I'm about to go to Wisconsin for a couple weeks and have to get other stuff done before I leave.
Reply:Well, I really liked the effect. It was as if you had pulled up a stool and twirled it around adding layers of rainbow washes with a brush.--The dinosaur is actually quite the undertaking. There's got to be a story behind that.
