combo welder vs pipe welder

can someone tell me what the difference is between a pipe welder and a combo welder.... ive seen a few job listings where they are hiring "pipe welders and combo welders"
Reply:Someone will probably tell me I"m wrong, but I believe combo welder is someone who can both TIG weld and stick weld on pipe.  Pipewelder would imply just stick welding or MIG/Fluxcore welding on pipe, perhaps....  Tube welders are generally TIG welders, familiar with stainless and high temp alloys.  Generally better welding stuff with thin walls in tight spaces.Let's see how close I am...Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector

Reply:I thought a "weldor" was a guy who thinks he can weld and a "welder" was a guy who could. aka Cumminsguy71 at other forums....would not work here??
Reply:welder is the machine.weldor is a qualified operator of the machine with a lot of knowledge and experience and can weld lots of different stuff  good ayhole is a person who has possession of a welder and thinks that makes him a weldor . i purposely refrain from casually using the term weldor  becaause they are few and far between.

Reply:I don't take it too personally since even though I am in possession of a welder I do not think of myself as a weldor or a Welder. No biggie. I just notice that the people I truly admire in a skilled trade are equal parts quiet, humble, and gifted at what they do. Some are even willing to share their knowledge with those less talented, and few are very quick to ridicule anyone.

Reply:Combination welder or weldor means you can stick or tig carbon and stainless pipe,2 inch and smaller pipe,carbon or stainless you tig all the way,unless the 2 inch is heavy wall(120 wall schedule) then you tig the root and hot pass and stick weld it out.This is my understanding in my 25+ years of pipe welding.
