Reply:It looks like those settings are on the low side for .45" wire. Have you used those settings before? Are you sure you were getting shielding (proper cfh at the nozzle)? Check the hoses for leaks?I don't run dual shield so I can't help too much with it. I think you should have stopped welding after the first weld though. Reply:I don't know if it will help, have not used it, but the sheet says shielding at 40-50 cfh.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/asset...d71M/c3101.pdfDave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Like Dave said up the gas 45-50 , turn volts up to around 25.
Reply:I did the welds last night at about dark because i have no shade here and this is a weekend project It's been about 95 to 100 degrees here in the shadeCheap wire brushes are fine for clean up after i hit it with the needle scaler ..doesn't make any difference wires fall out of the expensive wood ones tooThe welds were coming out black but not like i was losing the gas shield so i figured that was hot enough...at least if it was stick welds if it comes out black like that your way hotThe duelshield is an experiment i have never run it and i have been told by others here that this is like 7018 in a wire so i am trying it out...Expanding my education and all that ....Other wise i would have mig or stick welded itBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Honestly Al the first thing you did wrong was continue knowing something is wrong. I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:1 inch of stick out is to much for dual shield wire. The 3/4 rule is more for the self shielded. NR 232 or 233 wires. I'll probably get flamed and told that's not correct but have used thousands of lbs of dual shield. I would up my gas flow also I had that problem before and it was a bad bottle of gas. It does happen. You could use straight c02. It shields a little better outside. Weld appearance isn't as shiny.  Bump your volts up a couple. I have used a trailblazer a few time but does it have a polarity switch or are you doing it at the lugs?? I ask because the switch could be faulty.

Reply:According to the parameters stick out should be 3/4 to 1 inch which puts me in the ballparkThe only thing so far i can see i did wrong was running a little cold and not enough gas...40 to 50 cfh seems kind of highAccording to lincoln I ballparked my start from my miller app on my stupid phoneLast edited by killdozerd11; 08-31-2014 at 03:42 PM.Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:A lot of times the length of stickout is crucial when getting worm tracks. The proper stickout gets the wire hot before it hits the puddle, in turn dries the wire out. Sometimes the roll of dual shield has to be placed in an oven to dry it out. In the last couple decades I haven't run a lot of dual shield, in the 70s and early 80s I ran a lot of it. Reply:Yeah I agree that the stick out is crucial for worm tracks. Just basing the 1 inch is to much for that particular wire on experience. It could be like CEP said and be moisture in the wire. The welds in the picture look like more than worm tracks   Nothin 10 min and some 7018 wount fix. I would also recommend using the lincoln ultra core 71 wires. A lot more on the user friendly side.
Reply:I haven't run much .045” dual shield wire. We always ran 1/16” wire. I would think 1” of stickout with .045” wire the wire would be dancing around like crazy! Oh I forgot, just to cover all bases, killdozer11 you are dragging? Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749Think you need 100% CO2 bro.Looks to me like you're using CO2/Ar mix according to the first post.I'm thinking that's your problem. I've run a little .045" dual shield and it spec'd 100% CO2 for the gas. You're chart you listed does too.IMHO of course
Reply:Is .035 outershield 71m availible??I saw a post about it somewhere, but I didn't see it in the Lincoln catalogue..Kd11,I'm with you on trying something new...I'll be trying some Esab acclaim 7018 just for kicks..
Reply:25 cfh is plenty for .045 outershield 71, was my favorite wire up until a couple months ago. I run a spool out and changed, new one welded about like in pictures, grabbed a second new roll with the same results, switched to Excel arc 71 and away we went. Why is your tip buried so far in the nozzle? Mine are only about an 1/8" back in the nozzle. With .045 outershield I have dropped the voltage and amperage enough to make very nice welds on 14 ga. dump truck tail gates in the flat position using a 300 amp Pow Con.Last edited by lars66; 08-31-2014 at 05:41 PM.
Reply:Ak:  Lincoln does have it in .035 listed in the parameters but i never looked for itI have 7018 ESAB acclaim in 3/16 and it does run nice My 1/8 is there regular atomarc line and it welds good also I am always up to learn something new ...if i stop learning new things then i must be dead...though i like reading reviews about new things i take most of those with a grain of saltLars you are right it is a 1/8 recess ...i was looking at the wrong nozzle in the bernard stuff (info)40 to 50 cfh seems excessive to me ...I run mig .035 all the time with 30 cfh and never had a coverage issue unless we had a breeze goingAs of this morning empty soda can are moving around and that is why i do mig etc just about dark it usually quits blowing .... Reply:i've run a pretty good amount of .045 dual shield lately but not lincoln .esab 7100, and radnor equivilent. using them outside ive had good luck running it at 28v and 400ipm with 35-40cfh 75/25 mix. and 1/2 to 3/4'' stick out.
Reply:Its a bitch when it is 90-100 degrees but I have a winter Carhartt jacket that is stiff enough to hang open like a tent when not zipped I put on and position myself so it blocks the wind. Its not that I can' get everything in the shop but just prefer to work on the apron in front of the door when weather is decent, can see a lot better out there. Dragging a trouble light and welding is nothing but exploded bulbs from spatter.Last edited by lars66; 08-31-2014 at 08:58 PM.

Reply:Dual shield is great for heavy fab for sure. Few pics of some 1/16 ultra core. It was ran at about 30volts and 390 ipm. All ran off vantage 300 and miller 12vs. About all the vantage could pull for 12 hours.
