the old sa manuals call for oil change every 50 hrs. i would guess this was true befor the better grade oils, filters, ect. my question is what hours are you guys running befor oil changes today and do most change fillter every oil change ? i have a 55 shorthood, runs like a top, uses 1/2 qt every 50 hours. great old machine. iam running 20/50w in summer, 10/40w rest of year, machine has 1700 hrs since rebuild, plan on keeping this old girl so I want to treat her wright. thanks to all that answer.
Reply:100 hours max between changes on my 2002 300D. Always check the oil before starting and monitor the pressure gauge a couple times each day.I suppose you could go with one of those remote filters and the long duration oil (Amsoil is one brand I've heard of). But Shell Rotella or Mobil DelVac(sp?) are still cheap enough that I don't see the need to spend a fortune on synthetic oil...Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:I use Amsoil and Amsoil filters. Amsoil recommends double what the manufactor says and stands behind there products. My 1990 SA 200 says 10-30 so thats what I put in it and change every 100 hr. If you would like to try Amsoil give me a hollar and I can get you fixed up.
