Hello all, this is my first post, I've been reading and enjoying the site for a while though. I used to professionally weld, went away from the industry for about 8 years, and am trying to get back in.I recently got a lead about a local boat builder hiring, and I would like to move on applying there quickly while spots are still available... however today was the first time in over 2 years I've struck an arc, and it has been probably 5 since I've seriously welded anything. I thought I would post a couple pictures to see what other professionals think, and if I'm crazy in thinking that I could take a pre employment weld test within the next day or two.I am definitely not where I was by a long shot, but not quite as bad as I was thinking would be. The pictures aren't my best from today, but rather an average of what I was doing at the end. Probably welded a total of less than an hour minus all the prep and such. Welded with my Esab Migmaster 250. All mild steel, flat position, 3 passes. Forgot to take pictures of my Vertical Up, but honestly was surprised at how well they were turning out. I think the boat builder uses flux core and stick only, but I only have my solid core to work with right now. I used to be best at stick... I'm wondering if that still holds true!Anyways, thanks in advance, on to the pics! Attached Images
Reply:Here's a couple more pics, single pass. You can see a little more detail in these ones I think.I went ahead and filled out an application this morning, now I just need to take advantage over the next couple days and see if I can smooth these welds out before they call (hopefully) for a weld test!
Reply:The last ones don't look bad, good tie in from what I can see from the pics. The Migmaster 250's weld nice, you should be able to play with the wire speed some and clean up the spatter, slow down just a tad. Also looked like old steel, make sure you grind it real well not just a wire wheel.ESAB Rebels 215 and 235, ESAB HELIARC 281i, ESAB ET 301i, Hypertherm 85 and 45XP, Thermal Arc 185, TD 60i, HTP PRO PULSE 300
