Reply:I am totally not interested in getting into an argument but would submit this opinion and point of view.if there were plenty of welding resources for the new welder than mr. Tig would not need to exist. And there would not be Chinese made welders flooding the market.the fact is there is a demand for it and mr tig and his producers filled the void.go to the bookstore and for the most part welding books are  worse than tig guy. I lump them in with how to port for head books and how to fiberglass books.I mean if asked, I would tell the new welder looking for information that mr tig covers a lot of material in an organized easy to search format, but really just scratches the surface. His videos are an entry to the world of welding and not a reference.but comparing him to this guy is exaggeration at best.I'm new here. So I'll shut up and listen to the responses.thanks

Reply:One of my favorite parts of monster was a roll cage the "team" welded that looked more like a kids jungle gym than a roll cage.Jesse walks in and takes one look and starts to rip into the guy that welded it in his sarcastic understated manner and the guy wasn't getting it. Reply:Originally Posted by ZTFabThere are many resources for anyone looking to get into welding but most everyone wants the "answer" dropped in their lap like a hot potato. The problem is that almost everybody nowadays wants to run before they can walk. Attempting to do what professional weldors have learned over years of welding in a matter of days or weeks. They don't want to do research or spend the hours behind the gun practicing to gain the skills and knowledge. They concentrate on the look of a weld more than the fundamentals of what makes a good weld and the associated/necessary skills like cleaning and fitting. Heck, MR TIG doesn't even clean his material which is rule #1 for TIG welding. Great example he's setting. Much like the video posted here, any swinging dick can go into Home Depot, buy a MIG welder and start boogering up parts. Now, a lot of them are making videos and trying to "teach" other people when they don't really know what they're doing, just perpetuating bad information and habits.Comparing MR TIG to Sean is actually a fairly reasonable comparison as they are both targeting the same market segment and both derelict in their ability to teach proper methods.Originally Posted by MinnesotaDaveX100...and this isn't just with welding either.
Reply:Steve, thanks for understanding the intent behind my posts. Some seem to be muddying the waters.Jwdiho, you seem to be interjecting an element into my posts that I am not making, which is that I am claiming to be superior or, as you said in the other thread, "holier than thou". I have not once said that I am better than anybody and I certainly don't believe that one has to have the "prettiest" welds in order to have an understanding and the ability to teach. I don't, and never have, claimed to be an expert but it doesn't take a Rhodes scholar to recognize the misuse of terminology and or poor technique, as demonstrated by Mr TIG, just merely somebody who has been in the industry, even for a short time.Expecting a person who is attempting to educate others, regardless of the subject matter, to use proper terms, techniques, and methods is not asking too much nor is it being some sort of snob that you seem to be making me out to be. He is being compensated for his work and he should do the job right. If anyone of those, well respected, well published Doctors were to publish an article on a certain procedure that was not only technically wrong but also used incorrect nomenclature how, "well respected" do you think he would be by surgeons who are in the field and can easily recognize the mistakes?I have given many other examples of youtube channels that are far superior to Mr TIGs. No, they are not the prettiest weldors but they have far more real world experience and show techniques that are critical to making sound welds along with many other skills, many of which I do not posses. The sad part is my posts have attempted to help steer you away from bad information and techniques but you seem to be adamant about following them. I guess you can't fix stupid.Last edited by ZTFab; 07-21-2014 at 12:44 AM.http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:Originally Posted by Willie BWhile I have a limited knowledge of your posts in the past, I have seen photos of your work. Unless you are photographing someone else's work, (which I doubt), you've proven your skill. You can't fake perfection. I dare say I, and plenty of other wanna be's would chose to apprentice with you. For lots of reasons, that ain't gonna happen! I know nothing of your background, I bet it includes many thousands of hours of welding. For many of us this is not an option. There are probably many reasons people want to weld. Most of the welds I see aren't very pretty, yet most are functional. Maybe my goals and the goals of others can be met, even if we never reach your level of expertise. In a perfect world there would be a dozen You Tube channels on a par with Jody, or a teacher of his quality in every community teaching night school. This is an imperfect world! Not every small town night school teacher fails to produce good results, I took a four year refrigeration course, the teacher is a horses ***. He is brilliant and unpleasant. He's now my close friend.

Reply:My take on these videos in general is this. If your looking to learn about really anything on the web spend some time doing a little research as to who really knows their stuff. Heck just a simple search may even bring you to this forum subject were discussing. Anyone reading this would take away that while there are a bunch of bad video makers they're some good ones also. Over the coarse of many threads Jody's name has come up. I too watch his vids from time to time. Here's where ZT is 100% spot on. This  is the part that people can't seem to come to grasps with. Watch one vid or 1000, if that gun, torch, stinger isn't in your hand well than all those vids don't mean ****. I to am from the same area as Willie B. Not a tone of oppertunity for formal welding education. I wanted to be able to add tig to my toolbox of skills. I spent the money and bought a good machine. I had zero tig experience when I bought it I had been stick welding since I was 11, Mig since 14 and at 29 never layed a tig weld my whole life. I watched a few of jodys videos and learned the basic ideas of operation of a inverter machine. Then I sat down for a year and logged a few hundred hrs of seat time doing drills, personal repairs and builds for friends and family. Never made a cent off that machine for a year. My skill level grew and now I'm proud as hell to do customer jobs with it and produce a solid repair or build that I have no problem standing behind. "Although probably after 1,000,000 hrs. I'll still won't be able to lay the robotic beautiful work of some of you." My point is this if I had spent a year watching videos instead of sitting at the weld table I wouldn't be nearly as far along. The best learning is doing, go sit and burn rod. Setup different things if it fails try again and again. Use the vids to pic up fundamentals then hone those skills yourselves yes it takes time and yes there will be frustration but I think its better than watching someone who almost everyone has agreed has poor skills regardless of his so called creds. Do that and then watch jody's video you will pick out tricks or things that he does without him telling you. You can almost watch them with the volume off and learn as much. That is one of the reason I enjoy Fieldres videos, for a lot he is hard to take but one thing for sure he is one hell of a welder. Also someone on another post said something about ZT not giving the info for free. I disagree if someone was to look around they would find that he has given much for free on this site alone. Along with guys like zap,castweld,7a749 and that is only to name a few lots of good people on this that help out others in need of help constantly. I work off the idea if you clone a person and they have the same intelligence, ability to learn and physical abilities if you gave one 6 years of class training and the other 2 years with 4 of hands on work experience the second will be further along. Rant over time for bed.-Keaton

Reply:He isn't troubling himself to make these vids. He is making money every step of the way. He isn't just doing this out of the goodness of his heart. I think you'll find if he had to work 40 plus at a real job there would be no time for these vids. That's also the reason most of the best guys arn't making them. Real work has to be done first. It doesn't matter at this point. This topic has been beat to death those who get the point will do well with it. Others far be it for me to tell anyone what to watch. To each there own. Jeremy Mcgraph subbed up my attitude for these types of thing in a honda commercial. "Two kids playing a motocross game thinking their setting the world on fire he pokes his head in the window as says hey get out and ride" Just go weld you'll be better off for it.Last edited by KD Welding; 07-22-2014 at 09:52 AM.
