I started a thread a while back on Plasma's. I bought a Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 102.Its installed and made my first cuts this evening. That went so so, spilt a 1/4 inch channel not bad I can do just as good with a torch, then switched to 3/4 inch plate lets just say it cut but it is certainly nothing to write home to Mom about. So as NOT to confuse, I am certain it is me and I need to work on technic and read the manual a bit more. There is one thing that I am not sure about though, I bought a 2 stage air filter for it and installed it. Its working properly on delivering dry clean air, but the bottom drain valve is down as tight as it will go and its bleeding air. Is it supposed to do that? My water filter on the main compressor has a similar valve and it tights up and stops leaking. I can't tighten this up anymore or it will strip. Is this normal? In my mind no, but figured I would ask.

Reply:The leak at the bottom of the air filter is there by design.  That is the way the filter evacuates the moisture.
Reply:" Remember that you really need to move fast in order to get a clean cut. If you dilly dally the cut will be poor."Looking at the chart I wasn't only dilly dallying I was pokie slow. Just guessing but buy a factor of 10.I didn't spend a lot of time cutting I was so focused on just making sure I installed it right and making sure it was set up properly. That chart is a lot simpler than the on line the manual. Not going out today but I will run by and get that tip tommorrow." Reply:Forhire;Took your advice speeded up my cut speed. Much better, I only did a four cuts though so I will need to practice more. Thanks helped a bunch.
Reply:I was helping in the local high school weld shop recently and was using their Cutmaster 101 (80 amp machine) The 102 is a 100 amp machine. I was very impressed with the 101 and the way it cut along with it's cut power. The 102 would be that much better.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Cut with it this morning and did a lot better, moved faster and kind of got the feel of it which is something I had been missing ( I was kind of holding the torch like it had a contagious disease )Even got gutsy and tried a couple of freehand cuts not bad.I am working on my track cutter for it and thats more saw, mill and lathe work which there is more of tommorrow. But its getting a lot closer to reality. Really looking forward to seeing a cut with that.
