Specifically can I use 33 pound spools?.  I'm shopping on the computer and know I can use the 30 pound reel on a plastic spool, but I have no idea if the 33 pound spool will work..?
Reply:YES, it should take up to 44 lb.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Really, wow. I have a 30 pound in there and it just ran out,  It looks like there's so little room for anything bigger.
Reply:The 44lb and 33lb spool are the same size. The 44lb just has more weight on it. notice on the 33lb spool, the wire doesnt wrap close to the center (the spool is not full because the winding doesnt start close to the center hole is the best way I can explain it) maybe someone else can explain it better. But the 44lb spool, the wire winding starts closer to the center hole so it holds more on the same size spool. I think the spools are 14" dia.
Reply:Along the same lines--- can a 4" spool be used in these machines? I saw this http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...t/SPLADPT.html  adapter for use in larger machines.
Reply:With that adapter I dont see why it would not work, but a reason for the large machines is to save money by running the large 33lb or 44lb spools (cheaper per lb). plus save labor by not changing it out as often (same idea on using a push pull gun for 12lb spool of AL vs. the spoolgun running 2 lb spools)
Reply:That's true...But I bought an assorted bunch of 2# spools last year when they were cheap...some SS as well as some SS fluxcore. I could run them in the HH140,but I think the Lincoln 255 might be a more suitable unit for them. I actually ran across that adapter by accident and thought it might also interest others that might want to utilize some 2# spools of specific wires rather than purchasing the big spools for small repairs. If you have an assortment of the smaller spools of various types of special wires it might come in handy.I had already been thinking about some sort of homebuilt adapter before I saw that one. I didn't know they made one,but it's pretty close to what I was thinking. I'd buy that adapter before attempting to build it myself...I paid more than that for the adapter to use 10# spools in the Hobart and there's not much to it.
Reply:NEXT QUESTION , ANY one use this wire,http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=270350936847  Or do i Need to spend more and buy the actual Lincoln L-56 stuff. Is Lincoln stuff better  or doesn't it matter.?
Reply:You get what you pay for, especially on welding wire. I like the hobart brothers brand wire. check this out, select the wire you need at the bottom. http://hobartbrothers.com/products/this wire is good. made by hobart. http://hobartbrothers.com/pdf/datash...uantumArc6.pdfAnd yes the Lincoln wire is really good to (L-56). You might save a few bucks going with the Hobart wire, but both are VERY good. Some say the cheap wire will work, but I would eliminate any doubt that the wire could cause you problems with the weld.
Reply:Not sure what size wire you are running in that PM255, but I would recommend .035 wire. It is a good general sized wire for that machine. But if you are welding on 24 ga or 20 ga all day I would use .023 wire size. Or if you were welding on 1/2" plate, then I would go with .045 wire. But for general welding, and welding different thickness metal (ranging from 16 ga - 3/8") I would put in a roll of .035 and forget about it.
