While welding 1.25" x .25" pipe (side on) to RHS (3"x125 ) I finished up with pockets of slag trapped in the weld. Were using 6013, 1/8" rods @ 130 amps. Have never found this an easy weld to make, especially with thinner pipe. Has anyone else experienced this problem.
Reply:Try different rods like 7014 or 6011. I never use 6013 and it is the mostly likely rod to get those slag pockets.
Reply:7018 would be my choose. Might have to drop to a 3/32JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:AC Crackerbox?6013 is (IMHO) not a good choice for buzz boxes. They work fine on DC in the right hands (there is a thread dedicated to this)Do you have access to a DC machine? If not I would roll with a 7014 or 6011 - 7018 AC would also work but must be the AC rod - not conventional 7018.Just one guys opinion.....
Reply:Thanks for your replies. Inclined to agree in regard to the type of rod, used a 7014 a lot years ago found them a great rod to use, don't see them much these days. Have a DC machine but did not have it available on this day. |
