onan performer 18 just shut off and now won't crank

Hi to Everyone,I'm new here, just looking for an answer for my situation.  I have a Ranger 9 with an Onan Performer 18.  It just shut down, like the switch had been shut off.  Now it won't even crank when I push the start button.  I've checked the oil, it is at the right level, I jumped the terminals on the oil pressure switch, still no go. Battery was dead earlier so I jump started it and started and ran for about 5 to 10 minutes.  I hooked up the jumper cables again and tried to start it.  I noticed the amp gage drops a bit when I push the start button.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.Thanks

Reply:Probably a stuck starter drive from attempting a low volt start. Turn the engine backwards a bit and don't try to restart it until you have a known good battery in it. Never, Never try to run an aircooled welder without a battery that wont hold a good charge. If its dead, charge it first. Unhook and THEN see if it starts. Otherwise, when in doubt... Test battery. The charging systems on those little rigs cant function without a good battery.
Reply:You have to go step by step, remove the battery and then try this.
Reply:Sounds like the charging system to me. Sense it ran for a few minutes and stopped after jumping.

Reply:Won't CRANK means it won't turn over right?Will CRANK but won't START is 2 different things.Does it turn over?...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
