Have a 225 weldandpower. Not charging the battery. I have not traced anything down. It has a starter sylnoid on it from an old ford. Is that was supposed to be on it? i have a feeling it maybe somewhere there.
Reply:The solenoid won't keep the battery from charging, unless the connection on the battery lead side is corroded, there should be a wire attached on the same solenoid post that the lead from the positive side of the battery is connected to, while running, you should be getting around 14 volts at this wire! If you are getting good voltage to this point, make sure that the connectors on the battery are clean and tight, I don't just mean visibly clean, as it could have a buildup of clear gook that builds up over time and turns into that powdery corrosion, the terminal can look clean, and still be affected by this buildup.I use a battery terminal corrosion protective spray that comes in a small spray can and looks like red paint, I use it on all my batteries connectors! If the battery still will not take a charge, I would be taking that battery and having it load tested, it might not be any good and just not accepting the charge, I have even seen this with new batteries that where just installed, they are like anything else, sometimes you just luck out and get a lemon! If you are not getting at least 14 volts to that wire at the solenoid, you will need to test the wires from the regulator and stator, to determine where the problem is.I can't remember the values you are supposed to get, you need the Onan service manual for this part of your diagnosis, so you can follow Onans testing procedures and values!#1.
