There is a linde machine for sale locally, seems in pretty good shape, I haven't looked at it yet but plan on going this week. As i understand it Linde is basically ESAB now correct? Would this be a good buy? The guy is only asking 650 for it. I'm not sure whats included other than a bottle of gas and torch. From the pics it looks like it has a built in water cooler and a 110v duplex outlet. Is this worth buying, or should i just hold out for something nicer. http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tls/2871734005.htmlESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
Reply:I don't have experience with that specific machine, however - Esab owns the assets of L-tec which was linde which was a union carbide welding division at one point.  Afaik they still support everything, lots of esab/linde/ltec stuff designs remained unchanged or minimally changed throughout the years.  That said I've got a migmaster 251, PCM-750 plasma and an L-tec Heliarc 307 tig and been pretty happy with them. - Most tigs don't have a built in chiller to speak of, but instead of a solenoid valve that will flow fresh water (like from a garden hose) thru the tig torch and you run the returning water into a drain somewhere.  If you want a closed circuit chiller you're looking at something like a Coolmate or similar for several hundred dollars more unless you pick one up used at an auction (I got my hobart chiller for $25 for my tig) - That machine doesn't appear to have an AC balance control or pulse option, which may make your life more difficult if you do lots of exotic metals or aluminum.  If you're just doing steel and stainless you probably won't even notice a difference, but I do quite a bit of AL tig and it makes a huge difference, prob is you don't tend to find it on machines under a grand unless they're ancient (hobart tigwaves come to mind) or cheap junk.
Reply:Those are solid old machines. That one looks pretty clean. It will be around for a long time. My opinion is probably not the standard "forum" opinion but I like the way these older machines weld. Smooth arc. No problems w aluminum that is what they were designed for. If it doesn't have a pedal I'd try to get the price down just a bit. Looking about 200 for a replacement. or you can just make or buy a switch.Comes w a bottle=bonus. I never use the water solenoid in these. If you are going water cooled I would reccommend a circulator or just slap on an air cooled torch and go. Here is a link to the manual. http://www.esab.ca/literature/Archiv...y_F-12-964.pdfHammerFile Big Hammer------------------------------Here, let me Google that for you...
Reply:he says it has a pedal, unfortunately he says he does not have an outlet for me to try it out which makes me a little weary about buying it. I know these machines were built to last but i still like to strike an arc and test it out.As for pulse and balance control i'm not worried about that. I learned to weld aluminum on my econotwin with none of those options and remote amperage control so having a pedal will only make things easier for me.Thanks for the manual lamename, i've been looking for one but haven't been able to find it, i wanted to get some additional specs on this before i seriously consider it.ESAB MigMaster 275Miller Econotwin HFMiller Syncrowave 250
