Is there any simple way to figure out what something is worth or if its a good deal? ive found a couple welders on craigslist im interested in but not sure if its a good deal.  Help?http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/5369149475.htmlhttp://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/5351197809.htmlhttp://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/5355579741.html^worth fixing up?
Reply:I'd give 400 bucks for the lincoln if it ran. But then again I don't know what I'm talking get about most of the time.
Reply:well being a high school kid, and san lorenzo being a congested east bay city, i kinda picture you in a residential environment trying to work out of a garage w/ limited space.    am i wrong?   those are good sized juice sucking machines.     something a lil smaller in single phase might suit you better, and easier to move around if need be.    i like your taste though.   an old ideal arc 250 on wheels might be a step closer

Reply:The Hobart MIG is probably decently priced considering the condition it's in. It is at least missing the drive roller assembly, which if it is available at all will probably be expensive to replace. You could use it as a CV power source with another feeder though. If the lincoln tig-300/300 comes with a foot pedal, $400 is a good deal. If it doesn't have a foot pedal, a new one will cost you about $200 used if you can find one, and $300-400 new. The hobart stick welder seems like a decent deal too. Not sure of the specs, but with industrial equipment like that you can almost bet on a couple hundred amps at 100% duty cycle. All of the above welders will be heavy and power hungry (especially the 300/300 and hobart stick welder). They will require at least a 30-50A 240v breaker to use a small part of the range, and if you want to use the full output range you will need to hardwire them into a  100A+ breaker. Not much can go wrong with these types of machines, so if you can test them and they work, then they will most likely continue to work, especially if you clean them up a little.Last edited by njs552; 12-21-2015 at 02:36 AM.1988 Big 50 Diesel CC/CV1982 Weldanpower 225/2101968 SAE 300 motor generatorMaxstar 200SD2015 AHP 200x"The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." - Ronald Reagan

Reply:an old ideal arc 250 w/ a hand crank on front in ac/dc.   if it has a letter C after the 4 digit code on nameplate, you could run it off your dryer outlet better.   You be somewhat limited to your output, but you ought to be able to run 1/8 7018 nice and hot easily on 30amp input.     small time farmers have them,  brentwood area and the valley would be other places to keep an eye out.Last edited by 123weld; 12-21-2015 at 03:23 AM.
