I need to build some pipe stakes for a flatbed semi trailer. These slip into the stake pockets on the sides of the trailer and are about four feet tall. I will need to make 6-8 of them to place on both sides of a 53' trailer to keep loads of pipe from rolling off when loading or unloading.The loads of pipe we are planning on hauling are going to be about 46,000 lbs so I need them fairly stout.Normally when these are placed in the trailer you place two directly opposite of each other and then wrap a chain with a binder around the pipe stakes at the base on the deck of the trailer and pull them together as tight as you can so the pipe doesn't push outwards and rip the stake pockets off the trailer. I have used some before but it was over ten years ago and I don't really remember what they were made of.Anyone have ideas?I think the stake pockets on the trailer are 4" channel so maybe a 4' piece on 3" channel for each one with a piece of rebar welded across the face about 6" from the end to keep them from falling through the pockets?
