Reply:By then its usually time for a new kit
Reply:I seen they had the 18v Milwaukee drill/impact kit for $199.00 at HD the other day.  I'd got the same price on it elsewhere a cpl.months ago.  I've certainly used better, but for the money, and if the ryobi was cutting it for you, I think you'd be happy.......
Reply:Well its red, that should make half the people happy. it is noisy and a bit rough. Battery life seems on the short side, but the charger is quick. My dewalt walked off My maketa shattered when I dropped it 30' I went through two ryobi's before the batteries wore out so now I'll see how this one works for me.
Reply:Just before the beginning of the year, I bought the Model 2410-22 drill kit. In the first month or so, I used it to drive seven or eight pounds worth of torx-drive deck screws, IIRC using maybe a half dozen partial recharges. The kit came with two batteries and Milwaukee also had a special offer whereby I got a third battery entirely Free, not counting a stamp for postage. To make the deal even better, I also got the kit on sale (I think it too was about $150) and I was given a 10% discount on top of that for some assistance I'd provided the assistant manager when I'd walked in the store. This is my first "portable" drill and I am very impressed with both its operation and internal construction. The clutch has a fine adjustment with a wide range and seems very accurate. The only fault I can think of is that if a person were drilling a safe at night and had to stop because someone looked in a window, the LED might give him away if he didn't think to cover the light, which does stay on a while after the trigger is released.
Reply:I have a Porter Cable 19.2V that is approx. 10 years old. Only hand drill I own (use it alot) the batteries are not lasting and weak now.I am looking for a replacement I hope I can find something comparable.I buy Milwaukee at work and they seem fine. Might be the way I go.Tim Beeker.
Reply:check out toolbarn.com I bought my milwaukee grinders andmakita cordless set from them. the makita set was only $460.00 Attached Images
Reply:I've used the Milwaukee 12 volt, 14.4 volt and 18 volt drills, running two packs for quite a number of years. I was always disappointed with their overall battery life. Not the 'per charge life', the cradle to grave life. Seemed pretty short to me. Now I've got one of the Dewault 18 volt lithium ion drills with two packs. About a year or so now. Seems okay to date. Of course it's got that low voltage or low capacity cut-off. However they do it. Before you can run the pack down to the dick-in-the-dirt level it just shuts it down. Go get the other pack. That kinda sucks. Maybe that's what extends the pack life too. I dunno. Heat and charging is always an issue with lithium batteries tho. Just the way it is."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Check Amazon . If its sold by them and filled by them is the best deal. I  have bought dewalt from them and was cheaper than local  stores.
Reply:Much love for my 28V Milwaukee drill, impact wrench, Sawzall, circular saw, and angle grinder. I have the light too since it was in the kit, but I prefer Streamlight rechargeables to any other light so far.Battery life has been good. With the Sawzall I can clip the nose sheet metal off an F-150 on one battery. After several years of use the original batterie are getting weak, but I bought new ones and will have the others re-celled if possible. We also have a Makita that's several years old. I'd not hesitate to buy their stuff either.
Reply:anything above 12v nicd is iffy as they will require at least 10 cells andwhen a pack is run down under load the slightest weaker cell becomes even weaker and begins to degrade the entire battery pack. With a pack with plenty cells the chances of this happenening are even greater.Lithium batteries are 3.3v so they will have about 1/3 less cells than similar voltage nicd.I just damaged two of my 14.4 dewalt packs trying to drill sheet metal with a 3" hole sawMM 180
Reply:You can 'repair' the old nicad cells by zapping them with the welder. there are some youtube videos that explain teh science of why it works, and do a few to show example of how it works.   The short and simple is the cells begin to self discharge because thread like crystals form between the anode and cathode. the mig welder ( not arc, voltage is too high, you want around double the pack voltage) zaps the thread away and then you get another 6-12 months of life from your pack.miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...
