Pretty much what the title says.I wasn't as informed/practiced when I made my welding table. Its a 3/8" top with 1.5" by .125 wall frame. I bolted it down with 4 bolts and its perfectly flat but as people said they would the bolt heads are irritating me now. Without going nuts re-drilling holes so everything was dead perfect and lined up I don't think counter-sunk bolts are gonna happen. Would there be any reason not to just run a few 2" beads around the table to the frame? I figure if I ever had to move it It would be decently easy to cut apart with a grinder and I can just fill in the holes in the table top.
Reply:Why don't you grind / cut off the heads of the bolts. Sink the headless bolts down in the 3/8-inch plate an 1/8 to 3/16-inch or so, and plug weld the headless bolts to your table top. Grind the plug weld flush with the table top. Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:Its a table, the welds don't have to be long. A few .5" welds would hold the top down fine and shouldn't hurt the top.Airco Ac/Dc 300 HeliwelderMillerMatic 200 (stolen)Miller Maxstar 150STLMiller AEAD200LE (welding and generating power) Hobart MIG
Reply:3/8 is fifteen lbs/sq ft. You dont need to bolt it, weld it or anything else....well unless you're a bad MOFO that carries it around with you like a purse. Put a pencil eraser sized tack on 4 corners and call it a day.You could get drunk and run into it with a 1972 deuce and a quarta and not break those tacks.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:just counter sink the existing holes will a hand held drillhttp://www.tranquilitycomputers.com/...ds/mount06.jpgOr just put a few (4-8) heavy tacs around it. like squirmy said, .5" is all you need. less heat the better

Reply:I do but im honestly too lazy to upload it at the moment.I went with the threading the table top and putting bolts in. By some miracle, with a little pushing/pulling to get the last bolt in, the holes lined up just enough. I had to hand drill everything so I can't believe it came out straight enough to make it through 2 walls of the tubing and 3/8" of plate.I did goof slightly. I accidentally pre-drilled the tap size for a 20tpi bolt, and used a 13tpi tap. So the threads are pretty shallow and a little loose, but they hold strong when tightened its not like its thin gauge stuff theres plenty to grab.

Reply:I just welded mine down at the four outside corners of my frame with ~1" long fillets. My top is ~3'x5' in 3/8" plate. If I need to replace the top I can cut those welds right off no problem.Tweco Fabricator 211i
