Hi guys, I have just got myself a second hand migatronic TiG welder and I have a question about wall sockets. The welder itself is 240V and will put out 200A.I have read that I will require a higher amperage socket into which I can plug the beast but I was wondering if any of you guys can shed any light on exactly what specification of socket I will require. Any help very much appreciated. Cheers. Olly
Reply:What is the input draw that unit requires? Most machines with really large draws are hard wired with a disconnect vs being plugged in. Smaller machines often us NEMA 50 plug/recepticles. There are higher amp rated plugs for industrial use, but they get very pricy..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:As dsw said we need more info on the unit
Reply:If it tops out at 200 amp output then you will be fine with a NEMA 6-50. What does the plug on the machine look like?GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.

Reply:In North America, we would definitely use a Nema 6-50 for that machine.  However, your post has me feeling like you're elsewhere in the world, so you may need something different.   Please post your location!
Reply:Hi guys, Wow - what a response - thank you all very much! I hung back on detail mainly because I wasn't convinced I'd get any comments - how wrong I was. I am based in England (240v 50Hz AC) and the machine has a standard (for us) 3 pin wall plug on it.The machine itself is a Migatronic Pilot 2000 and the following are the relevant details:5 - 200A240V ACInput fuse 16/32AI may well have just answered my own question there but I'd still be very interested in your thoughts. Cheers. Olly
Reply:Olly, this is a high volume forum, we tend to respond fast. You will need at least a 60amp breaker. 32amps is very low. I am not familiar with the welder you will be usingMillermatic 211Miller Syncrowave 350lx with cooler and tigrunner Thermal Dynamics cutmaster 811955 National Cylinder Gas O/A setup with original patina

Reply:There you have it 32 amps will be just fine. Gravel: I agree with you on many factors affect the input and output of a welder. I guess I am giving advice from my stand point with my current machine and amp range.
