I build scale R/C tube chassis' as side work. all my tubing material is .035 wall stainless steel tubing. either 3/16" or 1/4" outside diameter. I do all my welding with my miller dynasty 200 DX. here's some pics of my latest project...3mm screw for referencewhat do you guys think?

Reply:Just wanted to show the final product after powder coating. Full final assembly is up to the customer.
Reply:That's some awesome work. I'd love to have one of those.

Reply:Great job man! I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:My family owned a hobby store for many many years. Spent my entire childhood around RC planes and cars and models. Never saw anything come through the shop as nice as the buggy you posted above. Truly magnificent craftsmanship.Do you do the powder coat yourself as well? I figure its small enough to be done at the home consumer level. And you're a noobie I don't even know what that makes me... Gonna go hang my head in shame.

Reply:Amazing work & excellent fit up on the joints.Do you use one of those tig brush weld cleaners to remove the discoloration before powdercoat?TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:Truly a work of art.  If it's more than just a shelf queen the first rollover's gonna suck.  Did you happen to get a chassis or total rig weight?  Any other dimensions?

Reply:Not too often does a pictures get me at half mast. Great work!
Reply:That turned out great, nice work and thanks for the pics.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:thanks for all the positive feedback everyone. I'm going to try to answer everyone questions. I do not use a purging setup. just argon from the tig torch is all. I guess I should have specified I'm not a noob to welding just to this site. I have been tig welding for the last 8 years. lolI simply use a small wire brush on a cordless drill to clean the welds. all my powder coating is outsourced. this build will not be a shelf queen the owner told me he plans to take it out and beat the crap out of it every chance he gets. I will get a weight on it when I tear it back down for shipping.
Reply:That's awesome!  Do you have a little tiny mandrel bender too
Reply:I have a small hand bender for both the 3/16 and the 1/4 tubing. Tight radius' both of them.here's some more pics of this chassis. the rough dimensions on the chassis are about 16" long 7" wide 5" tall. I built the chassis, axle trusses, suspension links, and the steering links (expect the green one). this is one of about 7 chassis I have done in the past year. "fuel cell" filler neck will be attached with scale hardware when the customer gets it.servo winch hidden under the center console and in between the seatsLast edited by warno; 09-24-2014 at 08:10 PM.

Reply:I saw the first picture before reading your post and thought to myself ,"That is one heavy duty welding helmet!"  Nice build.
Reply:Absolutely incredible work, man. I'm really into rc, and my goad with my welding career is to build off road vehicle chassis so this just fascinates me. Keep posting your builds! I'd like to see them.
Reply:Been into RC for many years.THAT is AWESOME.You are a craftsman. How many have you built?Do you build different style chassis'?

Reply:Thanks again for all the feedback guys.
Reply:Hitting the like button. Years ago I tried building HO scale chassis for slot cars out of brass tubing and solder, but nothing that looked that nice. Reply:That looks amazing. I am actually building an rc crawler tube chassis as well. You're making it look like crap now lol but I used 3/16 brakeline and flux core welded. That stainless looks great.
Reply:All my chassis' are built with either 3/16" or 1/4"  .035 wall stainless steel tubing.Filler rod: typically .035 stainless steel but sometimes .045 My machine: Miller Dynasty 200 DX with foot peddleMy settings are:high frequency start150 main amps300 PPS (pulses per second)50 peak10 background.5 seconds pre flow5 seconds post flow20 CFH100% argonHere's a pic of my chassis jig. It's just a aluminum plate with a grid of holes. Then I use pieces of 1/2" key stock with holes to bolt down the frame pieces. Sorry my phone didn't darken to see the weld puddle but here's some videos of me welding.Let me know what you guys think.
Reply:That is seriously Awsome . What size tungsten  are you using ?gxbxc
Reply:I use 3/32 sharpened to a point. Seems to hold up a little better when I touch the tungsten. Let's face it, it happens. Lol
Reply:Killer work, killer!. What size torch are you using WP-9? Have you ever used a gas lens in this kind of situation for better gas coverage since back purging is such a PIA? Hats off to you, bro'.  When a welder tells you to "stick it", what do they really mean?"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell
Reply:The Torch I use is a weldtec. I can't remember the size but it's like the 20F except it's the air cooled version. I always use a gas lense with a 6 cup. Definitely helps. Thanks for the feedback guys.
Reply:Awesome jig table.Did you punch the holes? What size holes did you go with?Great work man
Reply:I had our NC punch press operator at work run it for me. Then I welded the structural pieces to the bottom. The holes are 1/4" every 1". Works great for what I do with it.   I need to build a bigger one though.
Reply:Nice. What size is that one?I'm working on one now that's 12"x24"x1/2" steel. It should be fun to drill it out, hah.I have a few more to, there's only so much drilling you can do through 1/2" and 1" plate.I need a mill or a drill press, hah.
Reply:Awesome buddy !!    Boy, I remember when my eyes were that good  not to mention your patients .
Reply:Are you welding on AC? or am I hearing fast pulsing? And that winch... it looks functional, Is that in case it gets stuck? lolWelding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Looks awesome! Very nice work!12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
