hello all, welding a closet shelf for my wife, since the flimsy wire shelving that's there can't hold up the weight of all her clothes. I'm using 3/4 inch black pipe from the h.depot. afterwards, need to repaint the pipe. can someone tell me if I can just paint over the black paint on it now,or do I need to strip the existing paint off to bare metal? thanks
Reply:Probably need to scuff it up and primer it
Reply:most of that pipe has a thin layer of oil on it, wipe with solvent , then scrufff n prime , paint..Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:it's only for the wife, put some black paint over the welds and she'll be right!
Reply:Personally I'd put the wire wheel to it to get it cleaned off and get the scale off it, then rattle can it.And I know that's excessive, but it's probably 8 ft or less? Wouldn't take but a few mins.Last edited by toofast_28; 01-08-2016 at 02:02 AM.Reason: omission
Reply:Sand paper or wire wheel the pipes, do youe welding, grind and sand, then wipe it down with thinner, then rattle can it with some $5 rustoleum cans of gloss black.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it.
