A guy I know bought a 200 and it only has 15lbs of oil pressure, I told him he got took. He ask me to post to see what your thoughts where. He paid 3000k from somebody on ebay.1990 SA 200Miller 225  Rip Miller302Miller 135Lincoln 200 MigHypertherm 600 PlasmaPlasma Cam Cutting TableMikita Cold SawJL Welding Tx . com
Reply:I wouldnt get too concerned until it dropped to 10.  I have been around alot of the f163s that only ran 18 pounds when in good shape.  Not a high revver, you only need (roughly) about 3.5-5 psi per 1000 rpm.  This depends on service application, of course, but stationary engines like the f163 are really okay with 10-15psi.  Hey, I even had a high rev bigblock dodge that only ran about 12 at an idle speed of 650, at 4500rpm it ran an even 50.  No biggy.
Reply:JL, Continental says 7psi minimum at idle, 20-30psi maximum for '71 and older units 30-40psi after that.  Pressure adjustment is accomlished externally so an increase could be possible by shiming the relief spring.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:My 68 has about 18-20 on Idle and maybe 25 when throttled up if it helps. I thought it seemed a little low myself but maybe not, Duane's info is usually, spot on.   Hey Duane, think we should shim the spring a little or should we leave them be?Last edited by kolot; 02-03-2010 at 11:23 PM."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:Continental says no more than 4 shims but I'd have to measure one to see what the maximum adjustment should be.  I'm sure they're concerned about relief sping 'coil bind' on cold start ups.As far as being "spot on" I appreciate the kind words but you may want to check your Commander 300 thread.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:The relief valve is held closed with calibrated spring pressure, and is unseated by oil pressure only  when it's necessary to bleed-off excess pressure.But... If an engine has low oil pressure because it's bleeding excessive oil internally, most likely through worn bearings, then the valve stays seated. Increasing spring pressure against a valve that is already closed, and not bypassing oil, will not raise oil pressure.Good Luck
Reply:Good replys, thanks. And my machine is a 1991 modle, his is a 70 modle I guess that makes sense. So would you reccomend shiming a older machine, or would it wash out the bearings?Last edited by JLWelding; 02-04-2010 at 07:11 PM.1990 SA 200Miller 225  Rip Miller302Miller 135Lincoln 200 MigHypertherm 600 PlasmaPlasma Cam Cutting TableMikita Cold SawJL Welding Tx . com

Reply:Sounds like some real good replys and theorys from these guys your getting hear JL Weld, so I'm going to butt in as politely as possible.     Sounds like its old and worn like mine.   I run straight 40w oil in mine, that increases the pressure some.    I do that w/ all my engines whether automotive or whatever.    I figure theres more clearance between everything than when the factory reccomended a thinner w oil..     I've got one F-163 thats so worn in the combustion chambers that raw fuel bypasses down into the crankcase.    So I'd start w/ a fresh oil change first off.
Reply:Again good replys thanks everybody.1990 SA 200Miller 225  Rip Miller302Miller 135Lincoln 200 MigHypertherm 600 PlasmaPlasma Cam Cutting TableMikita Cold SawJL Welding Tx . com
