Hello, I've had this for years w/gas bottle, and loved it so far! A few days ago trying to weld-up a snow blade for a 4-wheeler, It did fine for about 10 minutes, about 3-4 ins. of bead at a time, then quit putting anything out. My wire will arc to start, then quit as soon as I can see the wire glow. After letting the fan run to maybe cool it down, I tried again and after about an inch, same thing. Next day was the same, it started welding fine for about 2 inches, then same thing again? Suggestions on where to start looking? THANKS for any replies!
Reply:Something burned out.Take it to a welding machine repair shop. We got one in town. Or, talk to your local welding supply house and find out where they would take it. People on board here can give you pointers, but how deep do you want to crawl through the machine to fix it on your own? Or, you could contact Lincoln Electric. They will have your answer.City of L.A. Structural; Manual & Semi-Automatic;"Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place where gold is refined. Reply:It could be that the over heat sensor is being triggered and you may be exceeding the duty cycle limit.
Reply:Alright, thanks for some ideas on possible remedies. After several years of no probs, this is new that it would just stop on a bead, but then strike back like it was going to try to work! I wish I had a manual and parts list for this, but when I went to Lincolns site a couple of days ago, every time I clicked on the link for the older list of manuals, it would never go to the page. I'd give it a try on tracing for the problem on this, there's no weld shop around here. I'd have to take it to our oxy-bottle supplier, who'd have to ship it off I'm sure. I've fixed for the last 40 years a lot of diff things, so have probable whatever equip necessary. I'd sure thank everyone for their assistance on this! Gd
Reply:I'vfe been looking at the wiring diagram, and the thermo-breaker looks to be the only thing that would allow this wouldn't it? Thanks for any replies!
Reply:Maybe a dodgy connection somewhere. Contactor? More info on what you have checked and precisely what happens when it stops welding.

Reply:Make sure the Wire on the spool is not making contact with the body of the machine- Just guessing of course but have read about it happening.Start with taking the wire out of the gun and checking the spool, then load the wire again, maybe blow some air through the liner.Hope it is just something simple.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Thanks for the replies, soon as I get some time off work, will do some more tracing. Gonna take some ph# to work to call tomorrow, an airgas business about 50 miles away, and hear they repair, or have someone that does welder repair. Will keep advised.
