Hi,Since I'm mainly looking at doing small mobile TIG work using my Dynasty, I was strongly considering a work van over a truck. Was wondering if anyone uses one and has a picture of how their generator/welder setup is placed. Or would one be better off with an inverter style generator so one could remove the unit and not have to figure out an exhaust system for the generator? I work with light gauge stainless, so a huge generator isn't necessary for me!Thanks, reason I put it in this section was to see PICTURES just to clarify
Reply:Before I bought my truck I was shopping for the right van for a couple of years...never could find the right deal, things were either too pricey or just complete trash. At an old job we had a box truck, an old ford E-250 ..think it was like an 18 foot box. Had a complete shop setup in there. the welder/generator's exhaust went straight out a hole cut in the side of the box, angled slightly down so rain didn't get in...we also kept a fan in there on top of the machine to blow out any other smoke/fumes/ etc off the welder...it wasn't a new machine by any stretch. What I was planning was to get a van and put everything on some kind of pull out tray system, so everything is shut up and locked down at night, but pull up to a job, open the doors, pull the tray out and have your welder and a work table ready to go, with leads and gas bottles inside the van with the tool boxes/etc all easily accessible from the side door. yeah. that was the plan, anyway. ended up buying a 79 F-150, now I'm planning a flatbed build. ha.Millermatic 211 Miller Blue Fire 140@swiftwelding on Instagram
Reply:Buy an old wheelchair lift from a bus. Most are rated to about 800lb and longer deck than most liftgates. They work great for loading and unloading welders etc. Can often find them for $250 or less.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:I'm more electrician than welder. I've had a van since birth. 14 years ago, I got my first 4 wheel drive van, a Quigley conversion of a GMC van. I consider these things to be the most versatile vehicle in the world. Tools live inside, close, and lock the doors, they are safe and dry. The Bobcat rides on a trailer, other stuff inside. |
