I found some steals on used plasma torches via e-bay for the PT-31XLPC and one for the PT-38 if any of you have some ESAB plasmas and need a spare torch...Check this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/120769630149...84.m1586.l2649http://www.ebay.com/itm/120769631658...84.m1586.l2649http://www.ebay.com/itm/120769632623...84.m1586.l2649I would get them if I had an ESAB plasma, but still using a hyp.
Reply:Those are great prices.....but the torches listed (regardless of what the ad says!) are old, almost 30 year old, technology. You probably would not be happy if you replaced a Hypertherm torch with one of these! They are good replacements for the older, high frequency start Esab systems...and probably would be good replacements for some of the Chinese import plasmas (that have copied these older designs)The PT-38 listed is a contact style (non high frequency torch) but has no shield technology and is limited to about 25 amps.Jim Colt Originally Posted by jacobmillerI found some steals on used plasma torches via e-bay for the PT-31XLPC and one for the PT-38 if any of you have some ESAB plasmas and need a spare torch...Check this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/120769630149...84.m1586.l2649http://www.ebay.com/itm/120769631658...84.m1586.l2649http://www.ebay.com/itm/120769632623...84.m1586.l2649I would get them if I had an ESAB plasma, but still using a hyp.
Reply:Jim, could a pt27(I think that is the model) torch on my esab be replaced with a hypertherm torch? Would I then be able to drag cut the full 60 amps. Didn't know there was HF plasma cutters. As my machine has a pilot arc I am guessing its HF.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. Reply:Hypertherm does not provide retrofitable torches that fit other brand machines. Our torches all have pilot arc, without high frequency. There are torches that use high freq. start that have pilot arc, and there are also "touch start" torches that use high frequency. I think yours is a high frequency start.Jim

Reply:You are right...I mixed up my Esab torch numbers...The torches in the ad are pretty cheap... Ive never seen torches that low in price for a 50ft before....might be a garage project...lol

Reply:What makes you think that? Actually...the majority of my experiences of Hypertherm plasma systems vs Esab plasma systems involve the big industrial systems.....typically 200 to 1000 amps. Esab was always real competitive with Hypertherm in those power levels......we won a few battles and they did as well! Esab often wins if purchase price is the major decision maker, Hypertherm wins in regards to cut quality and operating cost (consumable life) in large industrial accounts....Jim
