I've been looking for a rotating engine stand for my father but I don't like the Chinese rubbish thats on the market so I'm going make something. I figured if I'm going to make something I might as well make it versatile so I thought I'd make it so I can also bolt on some extra bits and pieces and use it as a stand for running in the engines and doing out of car tuning and diagnosis. So I'd like to see any of the examples of rotating engine stands that you guys and girls have made. I've got an idea in my head but figured I ask the question and see if there are better ideas out there. Thanks

Reply:OTC makes some real nice engine stands.  I think the dressed out 8V-71 in the picture weighs more than 3000lbs.http://www.etoolpros.com/automotive-tools/OTC-1750.html

Reply:the ones I have built I just used a 2" pipe in a 2 1/2",  and welded a large nut on the end the inside pipe so one can rotate with large wrench or break over bar, drilled a few holes to drop a pin in to hold in position,   one of them I made with a secondary support so one could support from both ends,  the other is lighter and is much like the import units,  even the smaller one works well with large V8, 390's 400's. (both work well).  I have seen some with worm drive,  (I had a few drives but there were 50 to one and felt like that was a lot of turning to rotate the engine).

Reply:Theres a good write up on ford muscle.com using the end of a 9" ford axle housing. http://www.fordmuscleforums.com/foru...tand/pic15.jpg  I always thought this was a good cheap idea.
Reply:Thanks for the replies. Snowbird that stand is what I would like to make but I have no access to any machining equipment and the cost of outsourcing would be prohibitive. I should have mentioned I'm based in Australia so the stands sold in America are out of the question unfortunately.
